AOS Interview Within 4 Months from Filing? Not expiditing

Sometimes you just get lucky. Took over a year and we never had our AOS. Then applied for naturalization and got it in about 3 months approved at the same time as the pending AOS. It happens sometimes. 

How are you able to apply for naturalization if your AOS has not been approved???
