My mum used to tell me that she "could kill me" for the various naughty things I did as a child. Should I get her locked away for making murderous threats, or accept that its a standard British turn of phrase for being annoyed with someone?

Exactly. Why do people get hung up on things like this.

pun intended?

there has been enough killing of u.s. presidents in history..i see it as a poor verbal comment on her part

Peace to All creatures great and small............................................

But when we turn to the Hebrew literature, we do not find such jokes about the donkey. Rather the animal is known for its strength and its loyalty to its master (Genesis 49:14; Numbers 22:30).

Saying you're going to kill someone isn't very peaceful.

i agree. it is not an area to joke with or word-play..this country has a sad history of our leaders being gunned down...

I think some people who hate Bush and blame him for all of the problems we have with certain countries need to get a clue. One could argue that he made some things worse. But he didn't start it all.

Clinton was president while the first bombing happened at the World Trade Centers, and was Pres while Sept 11th was being planned. And no I don't blame it all on Clinton either. Clinton bombed Iraq too. No matter who the pres was or is, certain people will hate us.

I just get really annoyed with people who think everything was peaceful between the US and the middle east and the Muslim world before Bush was Pres as if he ruined everything. Sorry, Sept 11th would have still happened if Gore had won.

Maybe not. If Gore won, the terrorists would know that they had already won. There would be no need for an attack :innocent:

:P Ok, troll. Another name change, huh?

Bush has ruined everything post 9/11. You don't need to travel far outside the US to see the damage done to the US' reputation and world standing. Much of the current bad feeling towards the US (certainly from Europe) is directly related to him.

I mentioned the other day that whenever Bush stands up and makes some heinous verbal gaffe, falls back on bald rhetoric or cedes debate for slogans and sound bites - really cheapens the office of the president. Used to be a politician had to be at least somewhat articulate to get his point across - Bush says the most ridiculous things, and what's worse because he's done it everyday people are now used to it. He has single-handedly lowered the standard of political dialog. Its a complete joke really.

Well I don't completely agree. I did go to India after 9/11 and stopped at CDG in Paris both ways. People were very nice to us and never felt the need to point out what they thought of our country or the Pres. Europe is not king of the world anyway. They are king in their mind, and the US is king in their own mind too. :P

And activists like this will only bring a bad reputation to themselves for being hypocrites, saying one thing and doing another. Not much better than the politicians.

Also - why does reputation matter?

If our leadership does what's right for our country, what do we care what the Europeans think?

But in this case, I'm pretty sure our leadership has not done what's right for our country. That's the real problem. Who cares if the French think Bush talks like a hick? I don't care what they think.

They also think jogging is yucky and are criticizing their new Pres for doing it, saying it's right wing.

You know, I thought you were being funny so I googled it up and damn.. you're not!!

President Sarkozy has fallen foul of intellectuals and critics who see his passion for jogging as un-French, right-wing and even a ploy to brainwash his citizens.

...

“Is jogging right wing?” wondered Libération, the left-wing newspaper. Alain Finkelkraut, a celebrated philosopher, begged Mr Sarkozy on France 2, the main state television channel, to abandon his “undignified” pursuit. He should take up walking, like Socrates, Arthur Rimbaud, the poet, and other great men, said Mr Finkelkraut.

“Western civilisation, in its best sense, was born with the promenade. Walking is a sensitive, spiritual act. Jogging is management of the body. The jogger says I am in control. It has nothing to do with meditation.”

The French are such freaks.

I don't think anyone feels the need to confront americans to berate the president. They might be thinking it however ;)

Ultimately I'm not sure that this woman's comments are really worth the time of fixating on to condemn. I think it distracts from more important 'real issues'.
