Hi everyone,

this might be a stupid question but after becoming a US citizen through naturalization, do I still need to update your address with USCIS every time I move to a new one?

I’m asking because I have my naturalization was handed to me in person at the Oath ceremony. But the next day I logged-in to my USCIS account and my status says:

we issued your Certificate of Naturalization for your Form N-400, Application for Naturalization, Receipt Number xxxxxxxxxxxxxx. If you move, go to www.uscis.gov/addresschange to give us your new mailing address.

Or maybe it’s just a generic status in case you file Affidavit of Support because I googled around and it looks like U.S. citizens are only required to update their addresses with USCIS if they have submitted Form I-864, Affidavit of Support, for a foreign national.

No.  Citizens are not required to do that....unless you are the sponsor of an immigrant.  If so, you must report address changes via an I-865.

@Crazy Cat Any idea why did I get this message on my status then?

Not sure.....probably just a generic statement attached to all USCIS responses.

I think that is just a generic message.  As @Crazy Cat stated, there is no requirement for a USC to update USCIS regularly.  As an aside, my wife continued to receive updates on her online account up to about 6 months after her oath ceremony.  She ignored them.

Congratulations and Good Luck!

Not a chance after the affidavit requirements are met or after obtaining citizenship.

Maybe they want to send you one of those "How did we do?" Survey questionnaires?  I would love to see the responses. ))

That would make my day 😂
