Hello! I am here to try to get some advice on our situation we are engaged and wanting to get married. We need to know what is the best route to take. Also, if we get married over there in Egypt does it need to be a civil ceremony and if it is a civil one are we able to consummate it? We are both muslim and worried that civil may not give us complete right to consummate the marriage. Please any advice? Also, I need to know should we opt for the fiance visa or marriage visa and what are the requirements do I have to have a high paying job or what? Thank you!

You might be able to get really good and specific answers if you posted this in the Middle East/North Africa forum. There are Egyptian/American couples there as well as Muslim females who may be able to advise you.

As far as the job goes, you don't have to have a very high paying job. You just have to meet the poverty guidelines for the number of people in your household (including your fiance) or have a cosponsor to help you meet the guideline. You can look at those guidelines at the uscis.gov website.

Check out the guides above and weigh your options. You can file a K1 Fiance visa or you can go the K3 or CR1 route, but every situation and individual need is different. You should look at all your options before you choose.

If you marry in Egypt, it will have to be a legal marriage that can produce a certificate of marriage. You have to have the certificate in order to proces a K3 or a CR1 visa.

You can do any type of ceremony you want for your own purpose, but you would need to have a legal marriage document as well. You should also follow what monnik has said and ask your fellow Egyptian/American couples for advice because they would know best in regard to that country.
