I filed for my N400 in August 2021 and just got notice today that I have my interview scheduled for March 25, 2022! This is so fast - I thought it would take over a year to get the interview so I'm really happy that it's much sooner :) However, I haven't begun preparing anything! I saw on amazon that there are some different test questions etc. but I don't know which one to get and study for? I read on the interview invitation that it says "If you filed your Form N-400, Application for Naturalization, on or after Dec. 1, 2020, and are required to take the 2020 version of the civics test, you may now have the option to take the 2008 version of the civics test." and this confused me? Am I not supposed to get the material for 2021/2022 and I should be studying for an old 2020 or 2008 version of the test?

Any help much appreciated!
Thanks!

Does the interview letter not say applicants filing after March 1, 2021 will take 2008 civic test?

So I'm studying for the 2020 test right? Or I can opt for the 2008 test? What's the difference?

You can only test for the 2008 version now. The difference is the 2008 test is 100 questions to study, and 6 correct out of 10 to pass the civics test, but the 2020 test is 120 questions and 10 correct out of 20.

2008 for you not 2020.

Not sure about the difference, may be they added questions like

"How should you go to your neighbor's property?"

a. Only when they allow you

b.  Jump through the fence without them knowing

c. Fight them off on your way to their property

d. Throw your properties to their yard to claim later.

2008 Version
The 2008 version of the civics test is an oral test, and the USCIS officer will ask you up to 10 questions from the list of 100 civics test questions. You must answer 6 questions correctly to pass the 2008 version of the civics test.

  • Applicants who filed their Form N-400 before December 1, 2020, will continue to take the 2008 civics test at initial exam, re-exam, or N-336 hearing.
  • Applicants who file their Form N-400 on or after March 1, 2021 will also take the 2008 civics test at initial exam, re-exam, or N-336 hearing.

2020 Version
The 2020 version of the civics test is an oral test, and the USCIS officer will ask you 20 questions from the list of 128 civics test questions. You must answer at least 12 of the 20 questions correctly to pass the 2020 version of the civics test.

  • Applicants who filed their naturalization applications on or after Dec. 1, 2020, and before March 1, 2021, with an initial examination (interview) before April 19, 2021, will have the option to take either the 2020 civics test, or the 2008 civics test at initial exam, re-exam, or N-336.

Also, you don’t need to buy anything to study. You can find the questions online on the USCIS website, there are free apps with the questions, flash cards Etc (I used citizen now and recommend it), and there’s a ton of YouTube videos with different people asking the questions in random order, at different speeds, etc :)

Okay awesome! I just got a couple of question books and flashcards from Amazon as I prefer to study off the computer but I will definitely check out the YouTube videos - thanks for the suggestion!

This is what I got but should I return it? Is this material for the wrong version of the test?

Did they reuse your biometrics? I was given the hardcopy book at the biometrics couple of years ago.
