check or money order

I'm getting ready to send my paperwork today. I just wanted to know which is better, check or money order.

I used a money order from the local 7-11 and didnt have any issues. If submitting multiple applications, be sure you use seperate money orders for each. (and dont' forget the $70 biometrics fee!)

If you use a personal check, you can find your case number written on the back when the check is cashed by USCIS.

for me, i prefer check no need to pay for money order....its the same anyway

I decided to send personal checks so I could look at the receipt number on the back when the check cleared. Well, I couldn't make heads or tails of the numbers on the back the but receipt NOAs arrived so quickly after the checks had cleared I didn't really have time to wonder what all that ####### on the back was. I was going to do personal checks, but then looked at the websites for where the applications were going to end up (not the lockbox in Chicago) and saw for Boston that they don't accept personal checks. I wasn't sure if what I was reading was for services actually done there or what, or if the money was going to be cashed in Chicago anayways, but it all made me too nervous and we got money orders....

I like the idea of bank cheques if you really want to track it. But DO be sure to send them all seperately. I forgot to separate one and got a RFE for it. Kinda a pain to deal with such a stupid mistake on my part.

You will be fine with either a bank issued cheque or a 7-11 money order. Good luck!

I was going to go with checks, but my local office did not accept third-party checks, and at the time of filing I did not have a bank account. I used money orders from the Post Office and never had a problem.
