Hi,

Maybe a silly question about my DS-260 photo: Do you think it's acceptable? I am concerned about the "neutral facial expression", since I am smiling and I did not realize until now it said that... I'll obviously take the red scratching out of the picture, but just wondering if you think it'd be appropriate for my visa application . I also believe that my head size is perhaps too big, but I hope not. I would appreciate your thoughts. Thank you very much.

Compare to the examples from travel.state.gov.

https://travel.state.gov/content/travel/en/us-visas/visa-information-resources/photos/photo-examples.html

Click "pose and expression"

It could be okay as they have an example of a woman smiling as acceptable.

Head size seems too big so better just get the another photo. May be a bit less but natural smile on that one. 🙂

Thank you, @Kor2USA. I had visited that page, but had only seen the ones w the neutral expression... I feel better about the smile.  Now, @arken , I do not feel too confident about the head size :S It'd be a bummer paying for a new photo, but I will do if I have to... The only other recent passport picture is this one, but it is very similar. Do you guys think it could work? Or better not risk it? Ugh.

Keep scrolling down on the link provided. There are several sections on the left pane for you to select different photo categories. One photo with head sizer similar to yours is crossed out as u acceptable.

Can't you have someone take your photo with a good smartphone? Take the photo on a white background, do a little bit cropping on the phone first and drop it on the link posted above. It will trim your photo and give you a downloadable photo.

I don't think this one would be acceptable as your head is slightly turning to your left.

I brought 3 different sets of photographs to my interview and the best ones were the ones I took and printed myself.

And there are free apps to help you get a good photo.  I used ID Photo and there are others.

Ok. Thank you guys for your honest opinion. I guess I’ll take new ones 😕 Last question regarding this: do the NVC photos need to be the same as the ones you bring to the interview + medical examination? Or it doesn’t matter? I just read that one needs to bring “passport-sized color photographs” to both of these appointments. Wondering what this DS260 “photograph ” purpose is for. . Thanks again!
