Can someone file form i-407 form for anyone without his/her consent

If someone gets a copy of my Green can he/she file form i-407 fraudulently  without my consent? Will USCIS check that form i-407 was actually filed by the LPR and is not a fraud to trap someone?

Recruiter asked me about my SSN to verify my eligibility to work I asked I can give Green Card as SSN is confidential. But now I saw on internet that form i-407 can be filed to abandoned LPR status. I am worried if someone gets copy of my GC he/she can file form i-407 as GC has all the information that are requested in form I-407.

Regards,

Regards,

What do you mean, "SSN is confidential"? For the purposes of work, it is perfectly fine to give an employer your SSN. And why would anyone fraudulently file I-407 by pretending to be you?? You have to send in the physical green card when you file I-407 anyway. Nobody can do anything with just a photocopy of the green card.

That is why it is illegal to ask for GC/SSN etc before actually accepting an offer and filling out I-9 form for employment verification. Also you can use your unrestricted SSN card and a state id/driver license combo instead of the GC.

I usually remind the recruiter that i am not sending my GC over and the only thing they can ask if I need sponsorship or not.... If they still press on the issue I just thank them and look for different job posting.

Regardless of this I wouldn't worry it if was a legit recruiter and not some scam off the internet.

On the form it says are you sending the copy of GC or you lost. I thought someone can check the box lost the GC. Today I called USCIS as well to check with them but they have computer and don't allow to talk to any agent.

Technically it could happen but I don't get why you are paranoid about this happening unless you know someone is actively trying to get revenge on you. The other person has nothing to gain by doing this.

For any job you will have to provide your social security number if hired.

Most place run background checks (criminal and/or credit) prior to hiring a person. For those the social security number is required.

If you are worried about the place you are applying to being legitimate then don't apply there.
