What makes America?

Oh....about 300,000,000 people or so.

About 99% of which have no lineage to the original ethnic population of the land mass at the time it was settled.

A country comprised pretty much of the descendants of invaders and immigrants.

...most of which hate those damn immigrants!!!!

Which leads to what I think makes America, America: Diversity.

But when we turn to the Hebrew literature, we do not find such jokes about the donkey. Rather the animal is known for its strength and its loyalty to its master (Genesis 49:14; Numbers 22:30).

I honestly don't think US education system sucks. I think that's one of the reasons this country is so evolved.

As for blonde people, it's just that in Brazil they're minority, and here they're everywhere..

Understood, and if you had grown up in the school system here, then went to the school system somewhere else like in europe, youd notice a big difference. There are also statistics that show USA has a poor education system. Also when you have kids and they go to school, you will notice the poor quality of teaching in the school system.

According to the New World migration model which has near-universal support among the scientific community, a migration of humans from Eurasia to the Americas took place via Beringia, a land bridge which formerly connected the two continents across what is now the Bering Strait. The minimum time depth by which this migration had taken place is confirmed at c. 12,000 years ago, with the upper bound (or earliest period) remaining a matter of some unresolved contention.[2] These early Paleoamericans soon spread throughout the Americas, diversifying into many hundreds of culturally distinct nations and tribes.

Of course "Europe" didn't technically exist 12,000 years ago. Nor would those peoples have identified themselves as European or likely have much resembled "European stock".

Yes. Most of Northern Europe was frozen over. The ice sheet was about a mile high.

The following is the documentary I watched.

http://shopping.discovery.com/product-59637.html

Traditional history tells us that European settlers discovered America about the time of the Renaissance. But revolutionary new archaeological data and the latest DNA research reveal that Europeans visited our shores far earlier – some 17,000 years before Columbus was even born.

Filmed in glorious high definition, this two-hour, epic drama follows an intrepid family of stone age hunters as they trek from their homeland in southwestern France, cross 3,000 miles of ocean and eventually make their first permanent settlement in what is today the northeastern U.S. Along the way, they overcome starvation and storms with the help of a revolutionary weapons technology they would later bequeath to the native peoples of the Americas. But awaiting the pioneers' arrival is a stark, empty continent, filled with a plethora of bizarre and lethal animals – all brought to life by brilliant computer animation. Firmly rooted in the latest scientific discoveries, it's a compelling vision of the greatest migration in human history.

According to the Internal Revenue Service, the 400 richest American households earned a total of $US138 billion, up from $US105 billion a year earlier. That's an average of $US345 million each, on which they paid a tax rate of just 16.6 per cent.

Maybe it is because I come from a place where education is worse.

When you're used to drive a Fiat and start driving an Volkswagen, and you've never driven a Ferrari, you truly believe that Volkswagen is all that.

The current goverrnment has damaged the US' reputation beyond the borders of this country. I wonder how many people realise that, or what it means for future diplomatic efforts.

To begin Erekose, why the name change?

I agree with you, in that the current administration has damaged our standing, with respect to diplomatic influence and cooperation. During the Clinton administration, we were very effective in foreign policy, which was apparent in the foreign arena. I no longer serve in that capacity, yet during the first years of the Bush admin, significant yardage was lost.

And that is why I get SO frustrated, in that the US is in a wonderful position to do so much more internationally speaking in a positive light, but it gets overshadowed by the "our way or the highway, right or wrong" mentality of the current government and many of its citizens. Anyways.

Infidel -- people are researching the possibility that people were here on these shores around 30,000 BCE and earlier.

A lot comes down to parenting though. My parents taught me respect. Taught me that I better listen when the teacher speaks. Whereas some parents are teaching their spoiled kids that they are better than everyone else, including the teachers. Teachers cannot even use the toilet without being criticized by some parent for taking more than 12 seconds. Pay is not the greatest either. The old saying goes, you get what you pay for I guess. I honestly do not know how teachers do it here. I have a lot of respect for them; well the goods ones at least.

I assume a lot of the great teachers have been pushed out of the system.

I don't know how much of a factor that really plays. In NJ, the ghetto districts (we call them "abbott districts") pay their teachers significantly more than nice, cushy, suburban districts. Yet, there is no comparison when it comes to all measurements of student achievement. The burbs win hands down.

Atleast in this state, the parents socioeconomic status seems to play a much stronger correlation with childrens achievement than anything else.
