I got a 221g after my interview for original document. They embassy received them in 26 January and still no updated. How long did this take for you guys to get processed in Pakistan especially. Or do you guys know a way to talk to someone at the embassy because the officer had said will be done in 1 day.

If your case status is "refused" and also mentions something about administrative processing, that is more than likely because your case is in AP.  They probably already received the missing document and are now just waiting for the results of the mandatory background checks.

On average the wait for AP will be several months.  Some take longer (year+) and some are quicker.

Why would they do background check when they just needed a birth certificate

Your assumption that all they need is a birth certificate is wrong.  They want the birth certificate AND they need to finish the background check.  It's two things.  Not one and the same.

Everyone needs to complete the background check.  It is mandatory.  For your case, they ALSO needed the birth certificate, which you submitted.

For most countries the wait for the background check is short because the embassy accepts police clearance certificates.  For Pakistan, they do not accept PCC's and instead conduct manual background checks.

Why it takes a long time could be anyone's guess.  If your name matches or is similar enough to be a family member of someone on a watch list, or if your name is very common and they have to take time to find out which "Mr Smith" you are, then that may be the reason for longer than average wait time.  Or it may not.
