Can US marriage certificate be the original marriage certificate?

Hi everyone. I am at the NVC stage and uploaded all the necessary documents. For the marriage certificate, we uploaded our American (from State of California) marriage certificate as we got married in the US a couple of years ago, and that is our original marriage certificate. I did not upload our "country-specific" marriage certificate for Turkey. We also have this document but I did not think it was necessary. Did anyone else use the same method? I got worried as I saw on NVC website that all civil documents must be issued by my country. Do I need to submit my country-specific marriage certificate in the "other" category, and would that put us back behind the line?

It is the same marriage to the same person. After the marriage in the US, we also provided proof to the Turkish government, and received marriage certificate from my government as well.

Use the marriage certificate from the court in the county/parish where the marriage originally took place and nothing else.

I wouldn’t put a marriage certificate from a place I did not get married anywhere near an immigration case file 😂

Yeah, the CA marriage certificate is the one you need.  The one from Turkey may be called a marriage certificate, but it sounds more like it is a registration of marriage document.

Good Luck!

The original document is the US document as it was issued when you got married.

The Turkish document is only a recognition of that US marriage by the Turkish authorities
