I751 rejected due to insufficient funds

I recently filed form I751 for removal of conditions on my conditional residence and in around 2 weeks from the receipt the status updated to USCIS rejected my application due to insufficient funds (checking status online). There was more than $50k in my bank account and the bank said they never tried to cash the check. I wanted to ask if I should wait to refile until I get the rejection notice in mail or should I just send the new application already, without waiting. I have the new application ready to go and planning to pay through G1145 (credit card) this time around. My GC expires in less than a month. Any help or suggestions would be appreciated.

To answer your question will cost you $100. Zelle it to me.

Send a new application. No need to wait for the other. However, use money order. This is a prime example why I always advocate for one. Go to Post Office or those Western Union ones.

Immigration journey is not: fast, for the faint at heart, easy, cheap, for the impatient nor right away. If more than 50% of this applies to you, best get off the bus.

Send a new application with a new check.

Don’t accept blame for using a personal check.  I’ve used personal checks on deferral petitions. Never a problem.

We’ve seen USCIS reject cashier’s checks too, and there is no guarantee it won’t reject money orders.

I suspect what is happened is USCIS is trying to an ACH withdrawal and its systems are trying to draw from the wrong account or routing  code or both. Someone is mistyping and USCIS isn’t reading the machine readable personal check.

Thanks everyone. I will send it out before I receive the package if that’s the case. Is credit card a safer option? Do people face issues with G1450 (credit card)as well? I am just not sure what is a completely sure way of making the payment.

I miswrote G1450 as G1145 above.

Yes we see banks refuse credit card transactions from uscis due to fraud detection algorithms.

I have had no issues paying with credit card for anything at USCIS. Used the G1450 form more than once with no issues. Some credit cards you might have to give a heads up to so they can expect the transactions and not auto decline. I use my card because I love earning points, and it lessens to pain of forking over so much cash for sub-par service.

Got it. After doing a lot of research and checking on multiple forums I feel cashier’s check is the most sure way of sending the money to USCIS. I think I am going to try to do that and see if they accept it this time. Let me know if that doesn’t sound like a good idea.

I personally prefer US Post Office money orders over cashier's checks.  Less cost and universally accepted (in the US).  There is a $1000 limit, but that's more than enough for the I-751 application fees.

But as @Mike E mentioned, I used personal checks with no issues in the past.  But I think we will go the CC route the next time as @Loren Y said, to get those reward points.  😃

Yeah, people run into issues with credit cards too. Probably more than using checks as some banks deny the transaction for whatever reason. Check or money order is the way to go.

Since they said insufficient funds, I am wondering if you didn't write the correct $ on the check.

Extrapolating further on my mistyped ACH hypothesis, I personally find when I have to manually type or repeat over the phone in long number with strings of the 3 or more of the same digit, that errors come up.

so for example 40000005 gets misrecorded as 4000005

This btw was why Bell used the xxx-xxx-xxxx format for phone numbers.

So I think this accounts  for why some people have zero problems with personal checks and others get theirs rejected.

This is what we did too. It was nice to get some sweet cash back.

I think that credit card issuer will flag USCIS transactions if the card isn't otherwise used for transactions of similar size. Example, if someone normally uses their credit card for small $20 purchases and only at local stores, of course the system will flag a huge transaction for hundreds of dollars from a faraway USCIS location. But if that person is already using their card for purchases of similar value, the system is less likely to consider it fraudulent.

As you said, people can call their credit card issuer and alert them of upcoming USCIS charges. That way the system won't deny the credit card transactions.

I used credit card and called the company to not decline any payment from uscis. I did not had any issues plus when uscis charged my credit card then It gave me surity that my application reached there.

and i use bank money order as they can be tracked in 2 weeks after it is cashed  and to check a USPS it takes 2 months
