ACA Health Market Place requesting proof of SSN

About a week ago, I've updated my(US Citzen) ACA application to include my wife who arrived in the states in February/2022. We did so without SSN. Which has not arrive yet.

Today I got a letter them asking a copy of her SSN. We will update the SSN document when it's available. Has anyone had similar experience?

Imagine if an ACA market place actually complied with the law.

Is there a deadline to reply?

Seems to be a federal agency.  You should respond that there is no SSN and cite the laws that state if there is no SSN you cannot be denied health insurance

We ran into this when my husband came.  We ended up speaking to an agent at the actual insurance company we were choosing who really helped us out. You do not need a SSN to get insurance, but there was SO much back and forth to get him on my plan.

But act quickly because I remember there was a 60 day window to get him on my plan before he would not be eligible anymore.

Including my wife to healtcare.gov was extremet patience exercise.

Slight initial culture shock for her. In Korea, good health care was given for her.

It's one of the most known things about the US compared to other developed countries, that our health care system is a kafkaesque nightmare.

Marketplace has good phone customer service though. You could try calling them and seeing if they have any advice on what someone can do when waiting for a SSN.

If you just call them they are very helpful and there are different levels of expertise to help you depending on what you need. You do not need an SSN but will have to send other documents and they have a list of what is required and alternative documents depending on the situation. You will need to send a copy of the I-94 entry record among other things. My wife has had ACA insurance since she entered the U.S. in June. There was a little back and forth and sometimes they send messages that are confusing but the phone help people are there and do a great job.

Hopefully you get a good agent, some of them are not familiar with LPRs applying (they are, by percentage, a smaller portion of the total applicants).  Of course you can always call until you get a person who knows what they are doing.  I do have to say, so far everyone we have dealt with has been very nice.
