Turn around time for getting new SSN after becoming a LPR

We had a question for folks who recently became a permanent resident and visited Social Security office to get a new SSN card because it didn't get mailed despite waiting for more than a few months:

After your visit to the Social Security office, how long did it take for you to get the card?

Thank you.

RoC Timeline:

  1. 12/01/2023 - Application sent to Tempe, AZ lockbox
  2. 12/06/2023 - Application received by USCIS
  3. 12/12/2023 - Check cashed by USCIS
  4. 12/22/2023 - I-797C notice recieved giving access to 48 months extension letter online.

I just saw your other post.  Please try to keep similar questions (about SSN) in the same thread so we have complete information.

Hello,

My wife was approved for CR1 in October 2021 and entered US in Feb/2022 and became a permanent resident.

We were married back in 2019.

Could we file tax as married filing jointly for 2021?

Thank you.

You should wait up to 3 weeks after entry to get the SSN.  It is not 3 weeks after requesting one when paying the immigration fee.

Could you elaborate little bit what's meant by " It is not 3 weeks after requesting one when paying the immigration fee.  "?

We paid our immigration fee in October 2021.

Thank you.

The wait times for receiving the SSN card and GC is after the immigrant enters the US, not when they pay the fee.
