Pretty sure states have constitutional powers to regulate donation  grifters who raise money from state residents.  If so, sayonara gofundme.  This is the tip of the iceberg

GoFundMe Freezes Funds For Child's Heart Surgery After Finding Out He Supports Trucker Protest

 

 

OTTAWA—The popular fundraising site GoFundMe has frozen funds for a local 5-year-old's heart surgery after it was discovered that the boy was a supporter of the Canadian Trucker Protest. 

 

"Make no mistake, we will never provide support to Nazis or Nazi-adjacent people like Canadian Truckers who want freedom from forced vaccination," said GoFundMe CEO Ted Gerbaguman. "Once we determined that little Timmy was providing vocal support to his truck-driving Dad who won't get vaccinated but wants his job back, we froze the funds right away. It's the right thing to do."

 

The site has notified 823 donors who raised $32,000 that their funds will now be donated to Planned Parenthood and Black Lives Matter unless they appear in person at the GoFundMe headquarters to fill out a 100-page form requesting their money back.

I shared this with my sister.  Found out that a few years ago, she did a GFM for her best friend from HS who died unexpectedly.  In the GFM description, she said that the funds would go to pay for his funeral, and any additional funds would go to his son (15/16 at the time) to help him out.

GFM accused her of misusing the funds, even though it was clearly stated as such.  GFM tried to keep the additional $3k, forcing her to fight to get the money for the kid.  SMH

A friend was killed last week. The guy hit her head on. Everyone that is in our group raised just over 6k. They avoided GFM at all cost because of their crazy fees. I'm so happy they did hearing all these horrible things that they have done to ppl.

So sorry to hear of your loss Ontarkie.  And yes, I would personally avoid GFM (I know nothing of their fees).

Thanks, she was a great person. She gave her all to everyone she ever met. A great nurse too. 

 

I think it was mentioned, everyone just settled on using venmo and paypal. Since it was a close knit of friends it wasn't too bad.

I heard that GoFundMe is refunding donors minus the credit card processing fees GoFundMe had to pay. That is not a full refund. I hope everyone files a dispute with their banks.

In the convoy group a few said they received everything back. OThers are telling them to not wait and do a chargeback because the banks will charge them a fee of $15 or more depending on the amount. This way gofundme has to pay many extra fees.
