So we have "only" waited 7 months so far, and we feel like this waiting period will never end. Since they’re only processing about 200 cases per week, our case will not be processed until next year at this current pace. What is a realistic time frame for approval? Does anyone here think they will get faster now that Omicron has peaked in most US cities. Is there anything we can do as applicants?

No because there will be other variants and thus other excuses for sloth.

If it were less than 6 months since  you filed, I’d advise you to get married and file I-130. As it is now, it seems you  will get to the USA faster by sticking with the K-1 process versus starting a CR-1.

Keep meeting each other so they the K-1 interview, and subsequent point of entry,  and I-485 processes go well.

As a note, the I-130 now is taking anywhere between 6 months and 3 years to process right now depending on which processing center it ends up at. It could result in a longer wait for some.

Yes, that's something that needs to be disclaimed for people who think IR1/CR1 has become faster. To me, it seems like processing of that petition is a complete gamble. While the subsequent green card processing has gotten quicker, the embassy will ultimately treat everyone equally, and getting an early place in line for their backlogs is key. While conditions are generally improving at embassies, certain embassies abroad have closed entirely and are redirecting elsewhere, and some are likely to close when COVID inevitably makes a resurgence. Everything has become incredibly speculative and largely out of our control; nobody can guarantee what will be "faster" or "best" for someone's specific circumstances.

Thank you so much for responding Mike!
We feel helpless but getting married now feels like a complete gamble in terms of processing time.We just want to be together.

We are seeing each other as much as possible, which helps a lot!

Thank you so much for responding! Yes, getting married right now would be a complete gamble. The embassy here is open and is processing cases really fast…so USCIS is our only issue right now.
