marriage certificate name change

Hi folks,

My husband and I married in Nov. of last year in Massachusetts. In our marriage certificate there was a line that said "last name" and then "new name after marriage" (or something like that). Well, I put maiden name for both. I didn't want to change my last name until we had our religious ceremony. But now I'm thinking I could have put my new married name (my husband's last name) anyway and just not have gone down to the SSA office until I chose to do so, right? Well, now my question is can I still go down there (and all the other places RMV, passport, etc) with this certificate and change my name? I figure the important thing is we got married, right? I've seen other posts here where people say that their certificate didn't even ask the name after marriage question. What do you guys think?

Call your SS office and see if that will be acceptable I know these things vary from state to state, but my marriage cert didn't have anything where I indicated new last name, it just had each of our names and that we got legally married. But, like I said, things vary from state to state, so just call the SS office.

I'll try doing that. I hope they're ok with it. If not any ideas what the court order process is like?

My MA marriage certificate does not have anything in the line Name after Marriage.... I had no problems getting my SSN in my married name...

Really, those at the city hall where I was said I had to fill in everything!
