Received interview IL

I live in Ghana. IL finally arrived. I want to break this good news and also ask few questions.

We got married since 2019. Covid happened and stuff, we haven't met since then. We are planning to meet in South Africa on the 20th of March but interview is early March. My questions are as follows;

1. Is there gonna be a problem that we haven't met after our marriage till now? We have been communicating and started a lil business together. My wife shipped a car to me so that I can sell it here and make some profit. Though the car is yet to arrive, all the paperwork have my wife's name and my name. Is this enough to present as proof of relationship?

2. Should I reschedule my interview date in order for us to meet before going for the interview?

3. My passport will expire this month. New one is processing. Do I need to update the new passport info online or just bring it to the interview.

Thanks for your answers in advance.

it could pose a problem having not met for almost three years. It depends on what other evidences of relationship you have provided.

That seems more like a gift to you rather than a business or relationship.

The best would be if your souse could meet you before the interview or even stay there till interview. Rescheduling could push it back by several months.

~ Topic moved from IR1/CR1 Progress Reports to Process ~

I think it would be expected of them to ask when was the last time you saw each other and it would raise questions why you couldn’t manage to meet at least once in the past 3 years. Yes, there’s COVID but I know plenty of people who managed to meet during the process and before the interview took place, it’s not impossible and is quite doable actually.

Your wife should move up her trip to spend some time with you before the visa interview.  Best plan would be for her to visit a week or more before the interview and go to the interview with you.  If your embassy/consulate does not allow her in, at least you could tell the officer that she is waiting outside, some suggest that you take her US passport with you to prove this.  How many visits has she made to see you in total from the beginning of your relationship?  If it was only one visit three years ago it could cause concern.  In person time together and evidence of that is the best way to convince the officer that the relationship is real.  Good luck!

Two visits in total. One our first meeting and second during wedding. She wants to come to Ghana but Ghana is only accepting vaccinated visitors. She doesn't want to get vaccinated and we are planning on meeting in a different country that won't require her of getting vaccinated.

I forgot to mention that we put money together for her to get me the car. I sent some part of the money to her actually.

That is not enough in my opinion. Ghana is not the easiest consulate. It is her personal choice not to be vaccinated, but her choices have consequences. One of them is a possibility of not convincing the CO that the relationship is genuine.

Still not as good evidence as time spent together.

You have 3 choices:

1) do everything in your power to meet before the interview

2) risk it and go with what you have and hope for the best

3) reschedule the interview (expect significant delays)

Thanks for your input. As my wife doesnt want to come to Ghana due to the vaccine, meeting in another country is not bad right?

No not bad. The country of meeting is not important, the meeting itself is the important part. So regardless of destination just try to meet again.

Thanks for your answers in advance.

Move your meeting forward once your new passport arrives and try to spend at least a month together in SA.

Passport requirements for SA:

Your passport should be valid for at least 30 days beyond your intended date of exit from South Africa, in line with South African immigration regulations. However, some immigration officials still request that a passport should have at least 6 months validity on the date of entry to South Africa. To avoid problems at the airport on arrival, you’re advised to ensure your passport is valid for six months.

Your case sounds like it will be difficult to approve.

Do you have a lot of evidence of communicating since 2020? Do you have evidence you tried to meet but trips were cancelled due to COVID?
