Getting SSN after getting green card

Glad to say we got our green card approved on 1/24/22, the day of the interview, and received it in hand at home on 1/31/22. The question is about the SSN. We never got the EAD since we got the green card first. Does USCIS already submit an application for a SSN on our behalf or do we have to go do it ourselves?

Thank you!

Depends on when you filed I485.

It wasn't until recently that you could apply for SSN on the I485 as well as the I765.

Did you apply on I485?

If yes, SSN will come in a few weeks.

If no, you'll have to go in person.

*** Moved from AOS from K1 Visas forum to the SSN sub-forum -- OP already completed AOS ***

Based on your timeline (thanks for filling it out!), it seems you filed the I-485 before the form was updated with the SSN application option.  In that case, you would need to book an appointment at an SSA office to apply for SSN in person.

For our case, we filed for Social Security Card when filling up the i130 visa Application. We arrived in US and one week later we received our Cards. So if you didn't apply for ssn when filling up your app. You will have to apply to get it.
