DS-260, how to answer TB question if applicant was cured of TB?

I noticed on the DS-260 it asks if the applicant has TB. My husband had TB in 2007 but was completely cured. He does however have scars on his lungs which will be visible on x-rays. When we were living in the UAE he had to have sputum cultures over a number of years, all of which were negative for TB. Should he put yes or no for the TB question?

Thanks, I thought maybe I was reading too much into the question.

he will disclose at the medical exam about the past TB to explain the scaring

and the test for TB is normal and will be covered in the exam

Do you know if he will have to have a sputum culture since his scars will be visible on the chest X ray? He doesn't have his medical records from 2007 but he does have all of his more recent test results and CT scan findings from the UAE.

Yes,   since WHO says sputum culture will be needed

Two billion people – one fourth of the world's population – are infected with the TB bacteria, with more than 10 million becoming ill with active TB disease each year.

Drat, we were hoping that wouldn't be the case. I can't find any information online about how that would affect the scheduling of his interview. He lives a 2.5 hour flight away from Mumbai so we definitely need to minimize the number of times he needs to go there.

He won't know until the visa medical, but he should be prepared for the likelihood that he will need to undergo sputum culture testing.  In any case, he should make sure to disclose his TB history during the medical.
