Hi can anyone advice me. I was married 3 1/2 years ago on k1 visa. Got my green card almost 3 years ago . I applied a year ago for i-765 to remove restrictions on it. Received response from Uscis giving me 24 months extension. My question is can or should I apply for citizenship on i-400 now.

Thanks

First off, I believe you mean I-751 (that’s the RoC form), not I-765 (that’s EAD).

If you are still married to the same person, you can apply for citizenship 90 days before the anniversary of your original green card (resident since date).  I did it that way, while my RoC was still pending.  USCIS has a calculator to determine the exact date: https://www.uscis.gov/forms/uscis-early-filing-calculator.  However, I would not apply on the first day you can, but wait two or three days.

As to whether you should apply for citizenship, that’s entirely your choice.  I would say it will make things easier (and cheaper) for the next decades (green card renewal costs significantly more than passport renewal, and if ever you wanted to live some place else for a few months or years, you can always come back here).  Personally, I was counting down the days until I could finally apply to become an American; I love this country and couldn’t wait to fully belong, but everybody is different.

Good luck with everything!

You right it's the 1-751. Just to clarify the green card was issued for 2 years . I applied 90 days before expiration as I was told to-do. I am now  waiting a year since I applied. You mentioned you applied for citizenship 90 days before your green card expired is this possible. I was told one has to wait 3 year before applying for citizenship is this correct. How long does the citizenship application take. I have 2 other passport what happens to them. Is the n-400 simple to fill out . Thanks

You can apply your citizenship 3 years minus 90 days from your green card date started. For example my friend got her GC on 2/28/19. I just helped her to file her n-400 3 days ago

n400 is very simple to fill out. Just follow USCIS instruction. I filled up on Monday ( online) and by Wednesday her credit card already charged

Hi just checked the neutralization calculator I became a resident 5/18/19 the option was up until 5/1/2019 after this it says not eligible to apply ?

If the 'resident since' date on your greencard is 5/18/2019, you can apply as early as 2/17/2022 for naturalization based on 3 year rule.
