My fiancee is in Vietnam and we applied for K1 in October 2021. Our goal is to be together as soon as we can, and we read that for that purpose K1 is better than CR1. Also my fiancee is ok with staying at home for a while and I earn enough for us both. However, since we applied, the processing time has been pushed back a lot and we are now exploring if there is better option for our purpose (to be together). B2 visa is another option but she would have to quit her job to be here a few months, not to mention her parents would reluctant to let her be here such a long time without something tied between us (traditional culture). I have my daughter and work here that I can't come back to Vietnam often, and even if I can, it would be a few weeks only.

Is there any other faster way for us to be together?

Nope.

She is very, very unlikely to get a B2.

Also, maybe @aaron2020 and others with knowledge of HCMC will come along to this thread, but K-1 is often quite tricky for that consulate due to the high levels of fraud..  K-1 and CR-1 timelines are similar in 2022.

I am actually not concern much about that. Our relationship is very genuine, we met a few times, a few months ago I came back and we lived together several weeks. Lots of texting and calling history days and nights.

Can you elaborate on why you think she is very unlikely to get a B2?

8 months to get a B appointment and she hardly sounds a good candidate for an approval.

Are you looking for her to come visit you while you wait?

Unlikely she will get a B2 with a pending K1 but you can always try.

FYI interview for B2 visa at HCMC is currently 248 days.

What do you mean? Even K1 she's not qualified?

she has shown immigrant intent with the K1 application.

She is unlikely to receive the visa as she has shown a desire to move to the US (not what a tourist visa is for).

There's a long thread on the K1 forum about coming to visit on B2 visa while K1 is pending. That's actually the source of why we consider B2 while waiting. We are not thinking about getting married and changing status.

This is what everyone who interviews for a B must convince the CO.

And, your gf will not get a B2 appointment for nearly one year.

Generally people already have the B2 before they apply for the K1.

They don't apply for the B2 after they've submitted the K1 application.

That's good to know, thanks. I didn't pay attention to that fact, but we'll try anyway. I assume failing a B2 visa doesn't affect our K1 case

Hanoi is only 3 months.

Well if you want to try for the B2 you can. You'll just be out the $160.

Failing a B2 doesn't affect the case. But your gf will have to indicate she's had a visa refused before and she'll have to explain the circumstances.

FYI.

Read this Vietnam denial. This couple looks and sounds strong and they were denied.

Make sure to go visit your girlfriend again before the interview if she doesn't get that B visa.
