Re-entry permits are certainly applied for by people who control their circumstances. If you plan to travel a lot get one.

Then I stand corrected!

A re-entry permit provides presumptive proof that you never intended to abandon residence.  That is its only value in this case.

so it looks like its a good idea to apply for a reenty permit ASAP, even tho Im not really sure how long its gonna take to get approved, at least Im gonna have the receipt to say " I applied for a reentry permit"......

Gotta be physically in the US to apply but yes, it switches the burden of proof to your side.  It certainly benefitted us in 2018 when we did the Returning resident application after FOUR years out LOL.  At least we had one, even if it was expired.

Im gonna apply then, whenever I get there in MAY. I think the fingerprints will probably gonna be re-used like its happining to everybody....

but thank you Im gonna do that.

the fact that Im applying for a reentry permit could harm my ROC process tho???

I know you guys are trying to help me, and I appreciate that.

But I think our situation is a little bit different.

I applied for ROC  16 months ago, biometrics waived. I received the 24month letter extension last month.

I ll be outside of the US for 5 months, come to the US , and then be outside again for more 5 months.

Im expecting my green card to be approved/ denied or whatever by July 2022, if that happens I could apply for a reentry permit.

The only reason I dont wanna apply for a reentry permit now its because aparentally its taking forever ( more than 1 year ) and also my understanding is that its gonna expire on the same date of my extension letter.

So my points is: what is the point of a reentry permit now?

If my case is not approved before the 24 months letter expire Im gonna have stay in the US to get that stamp and that is gonna change all my plans,  so I really hope they approved it before October

Just how??🤔🤨

And now you're planning to be out for whole of 2022? Earlier, you had mentioned a few months..

I already stated early that this story doesn't add up. And the more we go, the more it becomes murky.

I'm out.

It honestly looks as if you’re trying to milk your resident status, and now you’re just living abroad. You’re not clear whether you are out for just a few months or for longer. What’s the point of being a resident if you’re not living here anyways?

We received my husband’s 18 month extension after we applied for ROC in June 2020. Just a couple of weeks ago, we received the 24 month extension as his 18 month extension is about to expire. We’re hoping to get the 10 year GC before the extra 6 months is up.

That's understandable. I agree.

However, if you've been following OP, she's trickling truth and very vague. Her story keeps changing. So, we are answering based on what she's saying and not based on things that would otherwise make sense, just like in your post. Basically, your post makes sense and is agreeable. Hers doesn't

By the way Op has been typing non stop with a broken finger. A miracle has happened!

Definitely. IMO, if OP wants to be a LPR then OP should be in the U.S.

Maybe, try talking to her. We've got nowhere and we are even more confused than we started yesterday. Hopefully, she listens to you or tell you the whole truth. 🤣
