not to be hard on u as we have a large age gap and i know what the immigration CO will look for in this relationship

i made 5 trips spending a total of 6 months in Morocco with him and his family.

i added him to the deed to the house in the US with a quick claim deed

he and i exchanged 123 greeting cards for holidays and to display our feelings (they are free online and the main page can be printed out)

we had photos of me (USC ) with his family / the mother approving is importand

and which religion did u marry under

as for Nigeria

https://www.afsusa.org/countries/nigeria/#afs-nav-people

the father is considered the head of the house. He makes most decisions and is the primary breadwinner for the family.

If muslim

Men, therefore, are regarded as protectors of women and families, and providers of financial support.

https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/guides/zk9whyc/revision/3#:~:text=The traditional Muslim family is,and support for each oth

No matter what u think,  the CO will go by cultural norms in your country and to overcome the age difference , you , the Nigerian must prove u really really care about the health and happiness of the USC

Thanks. I bet these numerous trips were before the Covid pandemic?

Travelling at these times is a pain in the butt but we check all these lists. We have all these you mentioned. I just want more solid proof to show our honest intentions and your post has been of immense help. Yes, my Mom approved too though after a bit of resistance but at the end, she was like "I bless this as long as it makes you happy"

she will follow IRS guides for foreign income which is taxable as Nigeria is not a tax treaty country

https://www.irs.gov/businesses/international-businesses/united-states-income-tax-treaties-a-to-z

with the ITIN when she gets the paper notice from IRS  (as i said in previous post ) she can use that ITIN to add u to checking or savings but u can not have a debit card as you're not in the US

POA-u said she was reading post (. She's reading this too, smiles )   so i figured she would explain a POA

its a Power of attorney given from one 1st person  to 2nd  to do business in the name of the 1st person like signing your name to IRS tax returns (as they can not be done online as IRS needs original documents like your photo ID and marriage certificate) and to add u to bank with the ITIN

looks like she sends u money( that will look like u use her for money to immigration as they see it) and makes visits but marriage  is a 2 way commitment /  what do u do for her?

Please, can you shed more light on this. By, "as they can not be done online as IRS needs original documents like your photo ID and marriage certificate)", do you mean she will have to present the physical copies of these? Thanks

Its in a lot of thread. Lots of folks have included it in their petition and got approved. I know each case is different but i spoke to a couple of folks who's got theirs approved and they said there's nothing wrong.

@AfroKing This is spot on what  @carmel34 said. I relate to this post as a woman who is 26 years older than her Nigerian husband. We will be married 7 years in May. He has been here 5- 1/2 years and a Citizen 1-1/2 years.

#1 evidence is time together in person. So kudos on the visit especially the Month. You have a long process ahead so focus on the visit and her staying as long as possible.

Filing taxes, Life Insurance all that co-mingling stuff n matter you don;t live together.
Lagos wants to see visits often and long. They want to see pictures of foreigner with your family meeting the parents. Many women come never meeting anyone being closed off. So focus on that.

Thanks. She comes to visit once every year as she only gets two weeks of paid holidays every year. She has met every members of the family that i care about, all my immediate siblings, my mom, uncle, nephews and childhood friends and we sure included all those in the I-130.

Please, is there a way i can contact you since your Hubby had gone through the same consulate? It would be nice knowing how he went through each stages.

I advise that you write about length of engagement....how long was it before you got married.

I sure did mention those.

1. We had a relationship and became serious with each other for two years. We only spoke to each other and each other's family via Video and voice calls all these two years

2. She cam around the third year and met all of them physically

3. We got married the 3rd year , her second visit

IRS wants originals of marriage

they will accept  certified copy of a birth ceritficate or national ID

USC needs to read thru the IRS site as they have changed the form since i did it

First, what you "think" is reasonable but not likely to be considered by the Consular Officer.  The best possible evidence is evidence of time spent together in person.  Second is examples of how and how frequently you communicate.  In your specific reverse age difference circumstance a detailed "evolution of relationship letter" from the petitioner explaining how the relationship progressed and why, is critical.

Thanks, we did write a letter explaining the relationship timeline in our I-130 package. I wrote one and she wrote hers too, correlating each other's story.

Do you think filling a joint tax isn't really necessary since we don't co-habit at the moment ?

Well, the deed is done, petition had been sent since last year! I'm not going to worry about the "woulda, shoulda" things. We just want to focus on what to do going forward.

Thanks

When you did yours, were you required to submit a form of account statement from your bank as a foreigner or a pay stub was required?

No ,   morocco has no pay stubs

he made 900 dh a month which at that time was 90 USD and i put in yearly total and did form 2555 to exclude it but remember Moroc has tax treaty with US and Nigeria doesn't

how u do this (MFJ or MFS) will be a personal choice for the 2 of u

i only say u need to show strong relationship with the age difference and give u the best i know as our age gap was  a big one

and , yes,  my trips were pre covid but we can travel again and time together is very powerful for immigration process

I don't think it will make a difference.
