I'm a petitioner and I'm filing for my wife. I haven't gotten to this stage yet but has anyone had everything approved if the petitioner can't show tax returns from the past three years or no income? My parents and a friend can do the affidavit of support. Just wanted to know if it would be a problem if I can't show income for myself. I make slot of money selling cars but I just don't have anything to show it. I've been under the radar so to speak. Now it's come back to bite me hard if it's going to be a problem. My wife is from lagos. I've visited her five times last year also.

Start by doing the taxes and actually declaring your income. Lying on anything immigration related is never a wise choice.

I never would lie. It's just been a hobby that turned into more. I'm allowed in my state to sell seven cars a year before having to report anything. I'm usually under the threshold but the vehicles I sell make slot of money for the year. Just trying to see how to go about it when the time comes

I just read and it says the purchasers are to pay the tax at the local DMV to avoid paying two taxes on the same vehicle. So I'm not sure how to report something like that. Because I pay big taxes already when I buy the cars then the buyer pays taxes when they register the car at the local DMV. For example. I sold one 2018 Malibu for $12000 and later I sold an 2017 Malibu for $10000. How would I report something like that? I don't know anything about taxes as far as self employment goes. Especially since the taxes are already paid two times on the same vehicle.

Granted that not everyone is numerically inclined. This is why we have tax consultants or accountants. They are a necessary 'pain' that you must accept.

On a good note, you will surprisingly find out that their services will even impact your business, positively. If you do not "conquer" this hurdle, you may not be able to assist any of your family emigrated to the US.
