sometimes the connection is bad and it happen when the network is so busy here in Egypt (thursdays, fraidays) .. also depends on the time here when you are making the call ( day or night ) so the late night calls go more smoothly than the day calls .. and because both ( mobinil & vodafone ) use the earth chanels for supporting their connection "not satellite chanels" so the connection will be dead in many places , example : i have a 4 rooms appt .. i have connection within 2 rooms while the connection is dead in the other 2 rooms

yeah but this has been all day long. this has never happened before. He gets my texts but I cannot call him at all. I'm getting his texts though thankfully.

Also, I have cingular. When I tried using my pingo.com number via a landline I got through to him just fine. I think its definitely a Cingular issue.

Yea, today only have I had problems... the only other times it's like this is during eid or holidays when everyone calls at the same time.

For the most part we have good connections, my cell is with tmobile and I like them a lot, the majority of the time :)

Sprint too!

I actually got through to him around 7:30EST this morning when I was driving to work...because I saw he called this morning at 4:39AM  He knows the difference is 7 hours but he also knows I get up at 5...maybe he's trying to send me an early wakeup call but I never hear the phone!!! hahaha. (L)

Well, when I called him at 7:30 he was at work, so we agreed to talk when he got out, which coincidentally is the same time I get out (5)...and....dammit!!!!! We haven't had a real conversation in like....weeks...but we still talk almost every day.

Divorced. To hell with him.

yea, actually, we talked this morning at about 7am my time and the connection was completely normal and fine, so I think it was sometime after that things got weird... strange because this usually doesn't happen. I just got home and am able to get through using the house phone.

For whoever was wondering why they couldn't receive text messages on their cell from their men in Egypt, not all cell phone providers here in the states are compatible with the providers in Egypt.

I can send but cannot receive from my fiance.

If you have verizon you can check their website and there is a spot that shows what phone companies are compatible.

I'm sure other providers have this information available as well.

Allah tries his chosen people through many hardships, but those who persevere through adversity, surrendering themselves before the will of Allah, shall be blessed with a superb reward.

-The Prophet Muhammad (SAW), as reported by Anas bin Malik

A time will come when the sky is torn apart; when the stars scatter, and the ocean drains away; and when the graves are tossed about, and laid open. At that time every man will be told what he has done, and what he has failed to do; and every woman will be told what she has done, and what she has failed to do.

Mine can't send me texts but he can call. Doesn't make much sense, but oh well...texting is almost as expensive as calling anyway

Well on my plan calling from Egypt is $3.49/minute yet texting is only .50 per text so it's a lot cheaper but that's cingular.

He can call but not text. Strange, but something to do with the networks. I can't remember exactly what.

And the texts cost me .25 each to send. Not too bad if I don't send a million.

He can send them to me from verizon's website and it doesn't cost me. He just can't send them from his phone.

Wait your hubby already on your phone plan? lol Mine's still got his prepaid whatever. It's a Nokia like the one my dad had 7 years ago  it was so weird to be in Egypt and hear ringtones that I was so used to hearing way back when but haven't heard in YEARS!

So on Sprint, for me to call my fiance is 34 cents/minute, and texting is 15 cents. So.....calling is better. Wish I knew what prepaid service he has so I could find out how much it costs him to call me, anyone know the different plans out there?

I got through this morning around 7:30 again, he was at work (as usual) and we got to talk for all of a minute and 48 seconds. (L) (L) (L):luv:

No it's the same for me and he's not on my phone plan yet since it wouldn't make sense. He uses the prepaid cards or something, I dunno. When I'm there though it costs me well over $3/min to make a phone call. My phone bill last time I went there was well over $2,000.:blink::blink:

Doodle, this trip utilize one of the "centrals" to make calls to your daughters. It's so much cheaper.

When my husband would call me from Egypt he would buy credit from Mobilnil. It would cost him 5LE a minute (approx. 87 cents). He would buy either a 10LE or 25LE card. They also have 5LE, 30LE, 50LE and 100LE cards.

He had a Nokia phone like Sparrow described. It was a "pay as you go". He would buy a 10LE card each month to keep the service on for the month. He had free incoming calls (with the 10LE card) but had to buy extra credit to make outgoing calls. I believe all mobiles in Egypt are pay as you go. Moh had never heard of contract plans like we have before I told him about it.

Yeah that is what usama has I think. He can receive my calls for free. I think texts are cheaper too 'cause one little phonecall tends to suck up all his money.

Oh I'm definitely not using my cell to call them this time. Actually the money was due to calling my mom and my sister and my friends and my kids. I had no idea it would all add up like that!!!
