egypt phone problems?

Is anyone else having a problem getting through to Egypt today? I keep getting a freakish fast busy signal all day. I don't normally have this problem so I'm worried.

gotta love sister in laws!!!! I texted her to see what was wrong and within about 1 minute I get a text from him saying he's ok and he loves me. Still can't get through with a phone call though but boy that woman works fast!!!

personally I think the connection SUCKS!!!!

when i get a busy signal.. normally the network is tied up..

Do they have a home phone? If we have problems getting through on the cells, we call the home. The home phone never has problems. The cells usually have problems on the weekend.

nope no landline. They did when their dad was alive but since they all have cellphones they got rid of it.

I got rid of my landline for a few months just to see how it would be but it just felt wrong. Seems silly to have both though when you think about it.

We don't have a land line at home either. We both have cell phones, that's sufficient I think. No telemarketers makes it a big plus.

Well i have problems everyday trying to get a hold of my man on his cell! The service, and connection out there is awful!! And we have problems with the internet too! I always get this funny ringing sound, or the lady speaking in arabic saying the number i have called is out of the service area or his phone is turned off which it never is!

oh....the phone lines are terrible there! We even have problems when calling his sisters landline

Always have problems with calling SO - he can hardly ever get me on my phone it either rings or says phone is unavailable and i never have any missed calls from him, or when i call i get an obnoxious loud noise and busy signal...woman saying the phone is unavailable or turned off....and the internet connection is so bad...we make a joke out of it when one day we wont need these connections anymore..quite frustrating indeed!!

Doodlebug, I've had the same with my cell phone with cingular. Its been international curcuits are busy and busy signals. Once in a while I can get through. My SMS's work perfect. And Skype works to. I called and got him through Skype. I can GET his rings but not DIAL out on my cell. My HOME phone with vonage i can call out on to. Don't be worried. I think its connections between here and there.

This week has been TERRIBLE getting through! There was a day where our calls wouldn't last any longer than 28 seconds at a time before cutting off, and then getting the lady speaking in Arabic.

It just seems like it's getting worse and worse.

Any idea why my text messages always reach him but none of his reach me?

sometimes the connection is bad and it happen when the network is so busy here in Egypt (thursdays,fraidays) .. also depends on the time here when you are making the call ( day or night ) so the late night calls go more smoothly than the day calls .. and because both ( mobinil & vodafone ) use the earth chanels for supporting their connection "not satellite chanels" so the connection will be dead in many places , example : i have a 4 rooms appt .. i have connection within 2 rooms while the connection is dead in the other 2 rooms

I had that problem before. I don't know why it does that. He used to use MSN and Yahoo to send me messages to my cell phone. Also, there are many free SMS websites for sending msgs to the US. Of course, they would have to be online to send the msg, and many times I know that they might not have access. But that system worked pretty good for us.

Sometimes we couldn't send messages or make calls because we didn't have credit, or no internet, or whatever, we used missed call codes. 1 missed call to say I'm thinking about you, 2 missed calls to say I will be online within an hour, and 3 missed calls to say --pick up I actually need to talk to you.

These helped us communicate. Instead of sending a msg just to say "I love you. I miss you. etc." 1 missed phone call would do the trick. It saved us money, too. I think the whole reason we started using this system was to save money. He never wanted me to pay for a message. And international messages *received or sent* for me were $0.25. He didn't want me to pay, so he would send them by Yahoo or Verizon and it would come out of my 250 msgs per month.

Now, the connection is still a problem for us. We can't communicate with our family sometimes and it gets frustrating when the connection comes and goes and you can only talk for 2 minutes at a time.
