No I didn’t do anything - just took the normal course of action. After I had my biometrics appointment they approved my EAD within days and sent the card out.

I am on a K1 visa. You can choose to have a SSN generated for you during the AOS/EAD application but I was advised to just call the SSA and make an appointment. I did so and already have my SSN. I guess they would’ve started me on the process once my EAD was approved so I was able to get a SSN a lot sooner.

 

Again this was with via the K1 visa process - I can’t speak to other visas sorry.
