The Van Cliburn International Piano Competition just released this statement, allowing Russian pianists to compete in the screening auditions round that starts next week in Texas.  14 of the 72 selected pianists are Russian.

I am sure Putin is going to take orders from SJL.  Regardless, I am curious, was there actually hashish oil in her vape pen?  If so, it seems like she was stopped properly.  As to the ongoing legal issues, we know the Russian legal system is different than the one here or in other countries, and with the ongoing geopolitical issues, who knows what will happen, but it really seems irresponsible to Ms. Griner to have carried this into another country (assuming she did).

There is no suggestion she is a hostage apart from the usual sources, this kicked off before the invasion and like you said she is hardly the most sympathetic character.

Considering how many Americans and American LPRs Biden left behind in Afghanistan, if I were Ms. Griner, I would not count on Old Joe, except that SJL has spoken.

Agree, it's pretty disturbing. What was the point of putting it in such an unstable country as Ukraine, which already had ongoing conflict in it for 8 years? Seems like a recipe for disaster. Did they not think about that at the time?

Maybe it had more to do with the fact that the Ukrainian government is quite corrupt.
