We talk everyday both on chat and video cam.

that is the best

have her join us so she can read the guides above and gets good information from the others going thru the Lagos embassy

the VJ members and others (like me) that go thru high fraud embassies know the issues we faced and how to deal with them

basically how to prove a real relationship

Hello fellow VJ. Please I need an advice. I and my Girlfriend(USC) haven’t met in person due to the nature of her work (US army). We are planning to meet anytime this year but we don’t know exact date. Is it advisable we both get married through Utah online marriage and wait until we finally meet and then apply for CR-1 or should we leave the online marriage until we meet?

You can get married but it is not legal until you consummate the marriage.

so ,   next question

Why does her being in the army keep her from coming to meet u?

Military Leave: What It Is and How It Works. As part of the military pay and benefits package, military service members earn 30 days of paid leave per year. You start at zero and for every month of military service, 2.5 days of leave get added to your leave account.Jan 5, 2022

Meet first then marry . My husband and I marry on our first visit I got gc and I’m a citizen now … I think big risk to marry someone you have never met or touched in person. All the best

This would not be a strange question except that we are talking to the Nigerian, not the American.  Yes, it is a common scam from Nigeria or Ghana to have lots of communication but no video or voice.  The American doesn't even know for sure the gender of their "partner" in conversation.  It's a typical money making scam, but certainly NOT typical for a US Military person to be using such a scam on a Nigerian.  What would be the point?

Either way, we don't know the totality of the circumstances.  For example if this is a young Nigerian male with a 15+ years older American female, they should never even consider filing a fiance petition and not an I-130 until they've spent significant time together on more than one trip.  If the ages are close and the Nigerian has a decent job, then less red flags but still need more than one trip.

if the person is US military

but i have heard of some scammers scamming other scammers

just because someone says they are in the military doesn't mean they really are

and when someone says "gf is army and her job means she can not come see me"

when i was on a penpail site i heard that so many times

army gets leave (vacation) just as any other job

so many times i had friend request of people suppose to be in military

one person said "in army/ located at a base in Rome NY"   sorry but that's a Air force base

and i know of a US woman pretending to buy a flight to visit a man in Morocco and showed a fake ticket out of Nashville to casablanca (no flight # ,  no seat # and no direct flights between those 2 cities)

all that is why i asked "have u talked on cam because scammers don't

People in developing countries absolutely get scammed by people claiming to be from the USA.  And sometimes the scammers are actually from the USA.

Scammed for money, yes.  Scammed into nothing but a fantasy relationship, yes.  Proposing an online marriage and petition filing, not so much.

We do not know the full story.

There are a lot of trolls out there and I can see someone playing with another person's feelings by proposing marriage and saying they will file a petition.

There is also the issue of USCs submitting a petition and playing mind games with the foreign partner or delaying the process.

Foreign partners move over to the States only to discover the USC doesn't want to marry them or decides adjusting status or removing conditions is too much work...

Interesting that no one is talking about the Utah angle.  They require the couple be together in person on the same camera shot in order to proceed.  My wife and I did this Oct 13 via her K1 arrival into the States a few weeks earlier.  So if you want to marry online through Utah County, Utah, you two better get ready to finally meet each other.

Definitely not the experience described in

And also not what Utah County says:

  • Can a couple be in separate physical locations still be married?
Yes. A video-conference wedding ceremony must allow the officiant, participants, and witnesses to all see and hear each other in real time to be a valid ceremony. Regardless of their individual geographic location, if the host location is in the State of Utah, they can legally use a marriage license issued by Utah County.

I married my husband without meeting . I wouldn’t listen to other people . I would do the best thing for you . Not sure ,why it would look bad.?She active duty and that a good reason to do it . It’s also cheaper . I say do it and just be prepared to explain it.  As long as you meet after the fact . Why can immigration say? It’s not their job to be telling people how to marry . They need to be focus on making sure it real . They are looking at my petition now . I keep you posted on the outcome .
