Hi all, I'm embarrassed that this is a silly question, but I'm filing out the I-130 for my spouse and I am maybe overthinking this question.

"Have you used any other names since birth?" - lets say my name is Jane Doe and my husbands is John Smith, we've been married 15 years. When I made my Facebook profile (that I barely use, but it's still there) years ago I made my name Jane Smith on there, but have never changed my name legally or used Jane Smith on any unofficial or official document. Just wondering if I should include it for other names used?

Thank you. It says "Other names used may include nicknames, aliases, and maiden names." so the nicknames thing tripped me up.

Because I'm known by the short version of my middle name, I indicated "Goes by Mike".  That's what they mean by nicknames.  William/Bill, Robert/Bob, John/Jack, Elizabeth/Beth, Betty, Liz, etc.

I took it to be other names in legal documents, or crime records, things like that. Most of us have some nickname or shorter version of our name, but it's not what they care/are looking for.

Facebook is just a social account, you didn't use Jane Smith in any more official record, like a lease, or library card, etc. If you did, though, then it could make more sense to write it down.

Yes, and not mentioning short versions of names is not a problem.  Lot's of pseudonyms on social media, like people spelling their name backwards or just made up names.  That's not what they are looking for on the I-130 but social media ID's are asked for on the foreign applicant's DS260 at NVC stage.

I have never written down any nicknames or other non-legal names on any USCIS form ever throughout my whole immigration journey. Never been an issue either, and nobody has asked.
