In my opinion that is an insane belief.  This is VisaJourney, not a political forum.

Your opinion is NOT the consensus of the majority of liberals then.

And this is CEHST, where current events rule.  As do politics.

Hundreds of thousands of citizens will have to do revert to snail mail.  Many senior citizens, overseas residents like me, etc. It is estimated that 9 million U.S. citizens live outside the country.

And of course, all of those folks who the anti-voter ID gang say are incapable of producing a physical ID to vote.  If they can't produced a physical ID to vote, it would be impossible for them to use ID.me.

So, bottom line is, ID.me is racist, if you define racism loosely like the democrats do.

Which is interesting as the IRS is saying to avoid snail mail.

My friends, I give up.  I have presented factual information as well as my own experience with ID.me.  A few of you continue to reject ID.me based on, in my opinion, emotional reasons, unwarranted assumptions and faulty logic. We have wasted enough bandwidth on this manufactured "issue".  I will cease replying to frivolous posts in this thread.

Funny stuff!  I was mocking the definitions of racist that are thrown out by the left.  E.g., requiring voter id is racist.  And if you really boil it down, using their definition, not mine, ID.me is racist.  If would impact the same people that voter id impacts, if you think the leftist claims are valid.

Drive this into politics?  It is politics.  The IRS is political.  The government handing all of your personal details to a private 3rd party contractor is political.  Privacy is political.

I fight it because of the many concerns brought up.  And for me personally, it seems unlikely that I will be able to use ID.me, as a U.S. citizen living overseas.  I could be wrong but according to the report by PGA on the first page of this topic, it is unlikely.

In theory... yes... being able to obtain access to your IRS documents via using ID.me will create the same problem that voter ID laws do. The lack of access to specific evidence and documents will be the same and will effect the same groups of persons, not to mention those that are overseas, and a whole subset of people who may need to obtain such documents quickly for immigration purposes. And that's just the lack of access problem, that's not even getting into the trusting your entire identity with an unknown private entity that says 'trust us'. Several individuals in Kreb's article mentioned scenarios that were appalling, and that was just one article... there's a lot more accounts of varying severity. That's not inherently a political statement to me.

They say on their website that they do not retain most of the data you submit during the verification process.  I don't think that makes me feel better because they have to keep some data.  If they ever had a big data breach, there could be huge short and long term ramifications!

70-80% of U.S. citizens consistently say they support voter ID.  Democrat politicians are the ones who started the unjustified racist slant on voter ID.

Oh I know the support for an ID is there. On it's face I'm not opposed to an ID provided that states somehow get past their own antiquated laws circular logic that creates the problem in obtaining one. It's one thing to say this is popular and we should do it, and quite another in implementation. One must look at the potential problems such an ID will cause in running into state laws that make it very difficult to impossible for some individuals to obtain an ID. One of those such groups will be seniors actually, which may not realize what a headache it might create for them. I have been through this myself with several. But I'd also point out there was a time when REAL ID became the hot button 'problem', and people freaked the heck out about that (see the long history of that thing and it's opposition).

No one was rejecting you, and no one here tries to change anyone's mind.  You have had good experience with this company, but it is also clear that quite a few people have had poor experience with them.  When I see a BBB review list of a company that rates below a 2, I am very curious as to why.  Reading most of the reviews, it tends to be more customer service related, and maybe you have had no need to wait in line for a customer service rep response with them.  Add to that the potential for vital personal information to be used for other purposes, or be exposed with the use of a 3rd Party company vetted by some unnamed federal bureaucrat and no possible out (makes sense coming from a career bureaucrat).  It looks like you have much more confidence in the federal bureaucracy than I or many others do, but to each their own.

I for one and glad you have not had a bad experience with this company dealing with the VA, as companies and processes are expanded to much larger populations and dealing with additional sensitive data, who knows how smoothly this will go.  Heck, we are talking about the IRS here.
