Good evening, I need some help and guidance if anyone knows about it. My k1 visa entry expires in 2 weeks and I have to be in Usa until then. Can I redo my medical exams and extent my visa for 6 months? Is it possible to do that? Would be a risk to get a negative extend? Is the process is simple and feasible to do that, does anyone know this? Do I need to do the medical exams and return my passport to the embassy to extend my visa for 6 months.?

The above was split from an unrelated thread in the K-1 forum.

06-04-2007 = TSC stamps postal return-receipt for I-129f.

06-11-2007 = NOA1 date (unknown to me).

07-20-2007 = Phoned Immigration Officer; got WAC#; where's NOA1?

09-25-2007 = Touch (first-ever).

09-28-2007 = NOA1, 23 days after their 45-day promise to send it (grrrr).

10-20 & 11-14-2007 = Phoned ImmOffs; "still pending."

12-11-2007 = 180 days; file is "between workstations, may be early Jan."; touches 12/11 & 12/12.

12-18-2007 = Call; file is with Division 9 ofcr. (bckgrnd check); e-prompt to shake it; touch.

12-19-2007 = NOA2 by e-mail & web, dated 12-18-07 (187 days; 201 per VJ); in mail 12/24/07.

01-09-2008 = File from USCIS to NVC, 1-4-08; NVC creates file, 1/15/08; to consulate 1/16/08.

01-23-2008 = Consulate gets file; outdated Packet 4 mailed to fiancee 1/27/08; rec'd 3/3/08.

04-29-2008 = Fiancee's 4-min. consular interview, 8:30 a.m.; much evidence brought but not allowed to be presented (consul: "More proof! Second interview! Bring your fiance!").

05-05-2008 = Infuriating $12 call to non-English-speaking consulate appointment-setter.

05-06-2008 = Better $12 call to English-speaker; "joint" interview date 6/30/08 (my selection).

06-30-2008 = Stokes Interrogations w/Ecuadorian (not USC); "wait 2 weeks; we'll mail her."

07-2008 = Daily calls to DOS: "currently processing"; 8/05 = Phoned consulate, got Section Chief; wrote him.

08-07-08 = E-mail from consulate, promising to issue visa "as soon as we get her passport" (on 8/12, per DHL).

08-27-08 = Phoned consulate (they "couldn't find" our file); visa DHL'd 8/28; in hand 9/1; through POE on 10/9 with NO hassles(!).

A visa cannot be extended.  The consulate must reissue it.  It will require a new medical, additional fees, and possibly a new interview.  Contact your consulate for instructions.

Thank you!  My visa is saying it expires in 2 weeks. My medical exam was on August 3rd 2021 and due to the pandemic, I received a phone call the day before my interview that was originally scheduled on 25 of August and the lady on call told me that my visa was canceled because it was over a year and I had to wait for them to re-open the case which took long. I had my interview on 3rd of November 3 months later and my case was issued November 23rd 2021 and I got the visa almost 2 weeks later. I  read on the embassy link that I should have 6 months from the issuance date, probably means I think the 23 rd of November. So if my medical exams expiring I can redo and take as an issued date the official date of my k1 visa approval? I m wondering if thats correct. I m going to mail the embassy and see.

The thing is that my fiancee is a full time student and 2 weeks ago got a full time job so she is in full time school to job to have the money pay the bills and is hard. We were thinking to have some more months until she finished school on May and have time for us. We havent seen each other for almost 2 years  from the beginning of covid 19 and now will not have time on how we are going  to plan a wedding. I got an email today from the embassy and saying that

''in order to reissue your visa, you will need to explain the reasons why you cannot travel before the visa expiration date. The Consul officer will review the reasons and will decide if a new visa will be issued.''

I do not know if this would be a risk to say to them these things but for us is so important to have free time together because she has so many on her head being a full time student and full time working.

There is NO GUARANTEE that you can get the visa reissued.  It's at the complete discretion of the US Embassy.  If you do not use your visa, there is the possibility that you will have to go through the entire process again.

You don't need a big wedding.  You can get marry at the court house.

As a K-1, you will be waiting 6-8 months for your EAD and AP.  Lots of downtime.

That is incorrect.

It's 6 months from the medical exam date: https://www.cdc.gov/immigrantrefugeehealth/panel-physicians/tuberculosis.html "Travel clearance is valid for 6 months from the time the [pre-immigration medical] evaluation is complete."

Definitely risky since re-issuance is at the embassy's discretion.

In my opinion, this is not a strong reason not to use the existing visa and it is likely they will not re-issue the visa for this.  If it were, they would be constantly asked to reissue visas.  Given the current backlog, they are not staffed to review and issue visas twice.  You can always just do a courthouse wedding now and a larger celebration later -- good for COVID reasons, too!

Thank you for your answers. My fiance is in full time program school and full work at this time. We re thinking that if I will use it now before expiring I will not be able to do anything there and be stuck in apartment all this time and is risky to find job under the table and I dont want to risk that, plus we have to pay for a green card after the marriage which are a lot of money and my fiance is so broken at this time until finish yer school next year. If I do not use my k1 visa and expires can I re aplly for new one next year when she finished school, is it possbile and good to do it? Does anyone have done this? Can I visit her with en esta tourist visa after the expiration of my k1 visa this year?  Ugh we're so stressed about all this mess right and we dont know what to do about it!

As suggested above by milimelo, use the K-1 to get married in the US and then return to Greece.

Also, apply for SSN as soon as possible after entering the US. Most do it before getting married.
