Oh that is horrible, I am so sorry for you. You did everything right, they made a mistake, and then you don't get what you need. Not fair. Is it right they need to issue a new number if it was only the address they had wrong? That seems crazy.

Did you file for AoS/AP/EAD concurrently? I believe that if you truly have no luck getting it now, the next time you can get an SSN is when you receive your EAD.

They said they can give me a print out of the number but can't get a new card reissued, which might be difficult for official matters. I've tried contacting where the card was sent in hopes they might have kept it, but to but to no response.

Yeah I filed for all those, so I guess it's just another waiting game now regardless.

I guess that is better than nothing. Although seems weird they can't just treat it as lost and give you a new one. They work in very mysterious ways.

For what it's worth, I have an SSN and have yet to be in a situation where I had to present the physical card (getting a driving license, opening a bank account, getting a credit card), so you can go a long way with just knowing the number :)

I just ran into the same issue. Although they say it's waiting on the DoHS I used the SAVE Case Check and can see they already approved it. I have been waiting 6 almost 7 weeks for my card. I wanted to get it before filing my AoS since I don't want to confuse anyone. Doing everything correctly and they still seem to have issues left and right and I find myself on the phone trying to check the status and getting directions 3 different ways.

The first time I went to the SSA the person didn't even submit my SSN Application. They called me the next day and pretended like we did something wrong and we had to come down and REDO everything again. It's a 1 hour drive both ways to the SSA office. So my husband has to take off work two days in a row for this but fortunately his work is very understanding. This time it was a different lady who seemed to know what she was doing and actually took photo copies of our info and could answer questions we had about changing my name.

How does anything get done? Looks like i'm just stuck being able to do absolutely nothing for another 5 months while I try to get a SSN through no fault of my own. The wheels of this government slowly churn until they don't anymore which looks like it will happen sooner than later.

That's terrible, that seems to be the case with a lot of government offices here, very slow and the mistakes just leave you in a place where you can't do anything and they can't either.

I got lucky and the address the card ws delivered to kept it and didn't open it so I was able to retrieve it yesterday so everything worked out in the end, for now.

Just want to confirm, I have my SSA appointment next week to issue my SSN. I'm also going to send out my AOS packet. So by the time when I send out my packet, I won't have my SSN yet.
On the I-485, the question do I have SSN? I should answer no. Question do I want SSA to issue me a SSN? I should answer no.
Is that correct?

Will you have an SSN when you sign the AOS form? No.

I would answer yes to the second question because the SSC issued with AOS approval will be an unrestricted one.
