We had our interview today

My husband and I had our interview today, had a great officer and were approved on the spot. After we got out of the field office I received a notification that “New Card Is Being Produced”.

While the I-485 changed case status quickly, the I-130 still has not changed status online and shows “received”.

I’m wondering, will the I-130 change case status online as well? I was reading that if the I-485 is approved, then it means that the underlying I-130 has been approved as well. Is this correct?

Thank you!

An I-485 via marriage cannot be approved without an approved I-130.  The I-130 is the basis for the Adjustment of Status.   Congratulations!!!

In summary, it took 13 months for approval of the CR-1.  It took 44 months for approval of the I-751.  It took 4 months for approval of the N-400.   It took 172 days from N-400 application to Oath Ceremony.   It took 6 weeks for Passport, then 7 additional weeks for return of wife's Naturalization Certificate..

Thank you so much! So you think we have nothing to worry about even if the status online didn’t update for the I-130?

I wouldn't worry about it.

01-23-2008 = Consulate gets file; outdated Packet 4 mailed to fiancee 1/27/08; rec'd 3/3/08.

04-29-2008 = Fiancee's 4-min. consular interview, 8:30 a.m.; much evidence brought but not allowed to be presented (consul: "More proof! Second interview! Bring your fiance!").

05-05-2008 = Infuriating $12 call to non-English-speaking consulate appointment-setter.

05-06-2008 = Better $12 call to English-speaker; "joint" interview date 6/30/08 (my selection).

06-30-2008 = Stokes Interrogations w/Ecuadorian (not USC); "wait 2 weeks; we'll mail her."

07-2008 = Daily calls to DOS: "currently processing"; 8/05 = Phoned consulate, got Section Chief; wrote him.

08-07-08 = E-mail from consulate, promising to issue visa "as soon as we get her passport" (on 8/12, per DHL).

08-27-08 = Phoned consulate (they "couldn't find" our file); visa DHL'd 8/28; in hand 9/1; through POE on 10/9 with NO hassles(!).

My online status updated this morning to “Case was Approved” for both the I-485 and the I-130.  Thank you again for the advice!

For many people the I-130 status never changes, or sometimes only  after several months or years. It’s irrelevant because the 485 approval couldn’t happen without it so it’s implied.

Congratulations!

Sometimes while forgetting how stressful the process was, in momentary flashes of nostalgia I wish I could relive the process again and the excitement of getting approval notifications. Then I snap out of it and quickly come back to my senses. 😁

After some research yesterday I did notice many people experiencing this, I guess I was quite lucky as at the end the status online did change to approved this morning.

Thank you so much! It’s definitely a stressful and lengthy process, but can also be very rewarding.
