Congratulations !! So happy for you …. Wait what ? You got scheduled before me ? 😀😀😂😂 USCIS never ceases to amaze.

Hah yeah, but I think you’ll probably be a citizen first since I might have to postpone my oath.

Btw, when is the last time USCIS took your biometrics? I realized I think they took mine back in 2018, so they’ve definitely expired and may take more than a day to redo.

Our Biometrics were captured after N400 filing on 02/11/22 . I know that biometrics are considered fresh within one year ? 🤞

BTW what time are you scheduled at  @Hamilton and why would you need to postpone oath if offered on the same day ( after retaking biometrics ) ?

Oh, if your biometrics were taken earlier this year and your interview is at 8am, I feel 95% confident that you’ll get a same day oath.

I’m scheduled in the morning, but I have international travel scheduled in mid September. So that’s why I’m considering asking to postpone the oath so I can travel. But I’m also concerned because what if I get Covid or something while traveling and then can’t make it back to the US in time? I don’t know.

I would say 50/50. I’m unclear how long it takes to refresh biometrics - some people say it takes a couple hours and others say they were told it would take a couple days. Good luck for your interview and please let us know what ends up happening!

Does anyone else know how long it takes to refresh biometrics when they’re 2+ years old?

Hello,

Jumping into the conversation regarding Biometrics being refreshed.

We filed an N400 this July and got a prompt confirmation receipt by mail and a notice on the reuse of biometrics data taken at AOS.

If they intended to reuse the biometrics taken at AOS, why would biometrics need any refreshing? Is there any information around USCIS requiring biometrics to be at the most any number of years old?

Would love to know the facts around biometrics.

Cheers,

G&A

Google is your friend . Biometrics are valid for 15 months. If it has been longer than that they would need to be refreshed.  Its documented policy.

Yeah, it's definitely a bit confusing. Even though biometrics expire after 15 months, I get your point that if they say they're "reusing" the biometrics, then the biometrics shouldn't need to be refreshed. I also got an automatic "biometric reuse" notification when I filed.

To attempt to answer the more nuanced question you're asking - I think they may only be "reusing" the biometrics at the point of filing, but then they still plan to collect new biometrics (or "refresh them") at the interview to produce the latest documents (when the biometrics are older than 15 months). So they're both reusing and refreshing. That's my theory anyway.

Appreciate this as well, thank you.

And just for more understanding by similarly "confused" N400 filers like me,  I believe the facts are in the details.

Below I am pasting the text of the N-400 biometric reuse notice received by mail:

U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) has received your form and is currently processing your application, petition, or request. This notice informs you that USCIS is able to reuse your previously captured fingerprints and other biometrics. USCIS will run the same security checks and use your biometric data as in the past; however, it is not necessary for you to appear at a USCIS Application Support Center (ASC) for a biometrics appointment. The biometrics fee will not be refunded.

USCIS is continuing to process your application, petition, or request. USCIS will contact you in writing if any additional information is necessary to resolve your case.

This notice is not an approval of your pending application, petition, or request.

To ensure you receive all correspondence from USCIS, you must update your address if you move. For instructions, visit https://www.uscis.gov/ addresschange.

USCIS may use your biometrics to check the criminal history records of the FBI, for identity verification, to determine eligibility, to create immigration documents (e.g., Green Card, Employment Authorization Document, etc.), or any purpose authorized by the Immigration and Nationality Act. You may obtain a copy of your own FBI record using the procedures outlined within Title 28 C.F.R., Section 16.32. For information, please visit https:// www.fbi.gov/services/cjis/identity-history-summary-checks. How do you know exactly when your biometrics were taken the last time? By heart of somewhere in your profile online?

So my interview time is 12:50 pm and I went for my biometrics in Feb of this year. What do you guys think are the chances of same day oath for me?

Also, do they take away the green card at oath? And do you guys know how long passport applications are taking in Seattle? Trying to figure out some travel plans in Oct so any insights will be appreciated.
