I don't see why this is "obviously a choice". I wouldn't make the assumption that they chose to stay apart for that long of a time. Sometimes "choices are made for people due to various extenuating circumstances in their lives. I read all the time on VJ about couples who have long periods of time apart and usually it is a financial constraint, or the US petitioner has kids that can't be left alone, etc. There's more to this story than we know, so please don't make assumptions. I feel very fortunate that I have been able to spend so much time with my fiance, but not everyone has the same options. Give the guy a break!

I'm more anxious about my upcoming trip to Moscow than anything right now. I can't imagine how difficult this would be without the visits. actually, i can. We once waited over 8 months without seeing each other. We'll never do that again...

You're going to be with Sasha when I'm with Scott. I'm flying out there on 29 September for 10 days and I can't wait!!:dance::dance:

I agree that it might not necessarily be a choice; all sorts of things can keep people apart... and let's not get too earnest about comparing timescales; let's just agree that ANY enforced separation is too long, and we're all superhuman to have been able to maintain healthy, loving relationships throughout all the slings and arrows fired at us by the cruel USCIS :D;)

The Very Secret Diary of Legolas Son of Weenus - by Cassandra Claire

Day One: Went to Council of Elrond. Was prettiest person there. Agreed to follow some tiny little man to Mordor to throw ring into volcano. Very important mission - gold ring so tacky.

Day Six: Far too dark in Mines of Moria to brush hair properly. Am very afraid I am developing a tangle.

Orcs so silly.

Still the prettiest.

Day 35: Boromir dead. Very messy death, most unnecessary. Did get kissed by Aragorn as he expired. Does a guy have to get shot full of arrows around here to get any action? Boromir definitely not prettier than me. Cannot understand it. Am feeling a pout coming on.

Frodo off to Mordor with Sam. Tiny little men caring about each other, rather cute really.

Am quite sure Gimli fancies me. So unfair. He is waist height, so can see advantages there, but chunky braids and big helmet most off-putting. Foresee dark times ahead, very dark times.

I know you weren't directing your comments at me. (not sure how I feel about this Officer Julez stuff :( )We'll just have to agree to disagree on this one, cos I can see where financial contraints would be an issue in a long-distance relationship.

We haven't had to go longer than 6 months, hopefully we won't have to but... I can tell you that for us.... a trip to Africa can cost me anywhere from $3,000 - $5,000. My fiance' helps as much as he can but the fact is, they don't make enough in a month over there for an American to live on for a week so funds are limited. I also have a child that I am putting thru college so.... lot's of things do come in to play financially also.

I wasn't offended, just thought I'd offer a little insight.

Uh... that was a joke right?

There were 208 K1 petitons submitted in July. No approvals so far. We thought we had one for a Cuba petition but it turned out he filed in June. There have been 4 approvals so far for June. 3 of those were from Cuba which gets priority processing. The 4th was from The Netherlands. My guess is the one from The Netherlands was a military expedite, a typo in the timeline or some other unique situation. They are definitely not processing June petitions yet unless the beneficiary is from Cuba.

USCIS is currently working primarily on May petitions and taking their sweet time about it.

Since there is not much for us to do, here in the July forum we are keeping ourselves occupied with wedding plans and recipes. I cannot begin to tell you how enjoyable that has been for me. :dead:

;)

If you are not already doing so, you might want to monitor the CSC NOA2 forum. Here is the link. They do a good job of keeping everyone updated on approvals.

There is also a link to the July Filers Spreadsheet in my signature.

The longest I went without seeing Ricardo was 9 months but it wasn't because of financial contraints, it was more of "taking time off" constraints, we were at a crossroads in our relationship, deciding whether to continue or just throw in the towel, I gave him an ultimatum and he said "I need some time" (typical male) ANYWAYS...........to make a very very, gut wrenching, tearjerking, romantically dysfunctional story short....I went to Panama in May which was the end of the semester for me. I went with the expectations of this being the last time I'll see him and that I was going to say goodbye to him forever. I was NOT expecting for him to propose to me AT ALL, but when he did I was so dumbfounded, I couldn't believe it! The night he proposed, when we fianlly went to bed (*wink , wink*)I woke up in the middle of the night to look at my ring to make sure I wasn't dreaming! So you see ladies and gentleman sometimes it's not economical reasons that some people don't see their other halves for a while, in my case He had to mature and made a decision, and as you can all see he made the right one! ;)

No, it wasn't.

I'm 21 and in college, and she's 20 and broke.

Neither of us could / can afford to just go see each other whenever we have the time.

If we could have, we would have, but we couldn't, so we didn't.

Please don't go making assumptions like that, it seemed rather rude.

I agree that finances definately matter -i have a hard enough time budgeting in phone cards and saving for the little things for wedding and school when he gets here and things like that - visiting is not an option for me - unless my parents want to treat me to a trip to see him!! :)

December 31, 2006 - I call to wish him a Happy New Year (It was 3 am his time)

May 14, 2007 - Fly to Syria with my family to meet

May 18, 2007 - His entire family comes to my house to ask for my hand - I say YES!

June 15, 2007 - We get engaged in the church and have a reception for our families (it's the only "wedding" his family will see)

June 22, 2007 - I come back to the US

June 24-July 27,2008 - lots of research on VJ and work on gathering the papers needed...

July 31, 2007 - I-129F package received by VSC - YAY!!!! I was sooo excited getting the return receipt in the mail - on my way out to look for bridesmaids dresses :) Now all I need is a case number so I can track online - I'm so anxious!!!

August 13, 2007 - NOA1 - YAY!!!

JANUARY 8, 2008 - APPROVED!!!!

May 14, 2008 - he's finally here

June 22, 2008 - "Wedding Bells"

August 7 - Adjustment of Status and EAD sent

August 11 - Dates of both NOA1 for AOS and EAD

and we wait....

September 4, 2008 - Biometrics appt in Phila for both AOS and EAD

Oh dear - the bitchiness starts again  Longest I ever went without seeing my OH was just over four months and it was evil:/ He lives with his aunt so doesn't pay rent and I live with my mum which obviously helps the situation but I can fully understand why finances can hold people back from seeing each other - especially if you are in an underpaid job or have other financial constraints. I don't necessarily think it's bitchiness but just facts. To be honest... sometimes I read the posts and I think... what I wouldn't give to have the pleasure of my fiance' coming over here to meet my family and friends, to see how I live, to meet my daughter of all things... to save a little money but the bottom line is.... it's not possible. Nigerian's cannot get tourist visa's.... or any other sort of short term, if you will, kind of visa. And in order for me to go there... we have to get a hotel because as it is there are too many people living in the same house due to the economy so let's talk about financial reasons for not seeing your fiance'. And since I am putting my daughter through college on my own, out of my own pocket... finances are limited. Before someone mentions prorities let me just say that my family is my priority and I have a responsibility to my child and to assure she has the best possible future and thank God my fiance' feels the same way.

I guess this is my soap box, lol. I'm not offended or angry I would just like for people, in general, to see that... it could be worse and unless you are wealthy..... finances play a huge part in the scheme of things. I will not see my fiance' again until he gets his visa due to financial restraints. Doesn't matter if it's six months or twelve. I am one person, with one income and responsibilities that unfortunately take front seat to what I want. If I had my way, I'd be over there to see him every week-end, hell, everyday.
