Regards to accents......yeah I've found myself saying pants more intead of trousers also I say purse instead of handbag. Nick says wee occaisionally. The biggest things that cause hilarity for us are the simple ones like tomato and aluminium! I remember one time here we drove past faslane325 (the anti-nuke (and very smelly) peace camp) and he came out with "god damn hippies" that was it...I cracked up, tears streaming down my face whilst trying to drive! The other thing is as I speak a wee bitty gaelic I keep getting asked whilst I'm over there to just say something....I never know what to say!

Thank you - am rolling on the floor with laughter. Especially aluminum - you're right. The funniest that I can remember is that we were getting ready to set out on a hike and I asked if I should bring a "fanny pack". He just smiled and said "I hope so". Well, little did I know what fanny pack meant for them and that they call them bum bags. Share more - laughter is the best medicine! Hope everyone is having a wonderful Sunday!

My fiance is from Newcastle...the Geordie speak language is unbearable. Sometimes we have to get on the computer and have him type to me so I can understand him..it's sort of, British/Scottish/Gaelic sounding. He'll pop off with waye aye man, ach aye the nu...and I'm ####### did you just say????? He's forever saying things that crack me up...the first time he said aluminum i had no clue what he meant. I'm starting to get it now though!

I just got back from dropping him off at the airport....I'm missing him already. SIGH

Aww I hate that - but at least you have friends here who can commiserate and help you remember the good things My OH gets here in like four days and I know that him leaving is going to be horrible as always - I'm looking forward to coming here and freaking out so put the 21st in your diary peeps - about 11am (GMT) I am going to be needing some shoulders!!!

As for funny things we say, I knew about the fanny pack/bum bag thing but I never realised that fanny was a slag term for bum (ok I should have put two and two together but...). Jeremy starts asking his aunt about her fanny and I was in hysterics. She's quite a simple lady and thought we were laughing cause we were talking about her bum and didn't realise why we were really laughing

One thing I learnt today was the use of the word "smart" in England to mean "posh" or "formal" is not used in the US commonly. Trying to find a way of phrasing our dress code for his side of the family for our wedding (because I don't trust them to not turn up in jeans) was a nightmare. Apparently "sharp" is the word to use though Very weird... how can you not use the word posh?!

Thanks Jeraly! It's so comforting having this forum here to know I'm not alone! The house is so quiet now as my kids are visiting their dad too...I'm empty nesting! I'm really gonna miss Peter bringing my coffee before I get out of bed in the morning. I know you'll miss your OH too when the time comes.

Right...the whole fanny thing has had a few jolly moments in our house too. We were watching David Letterman the other night and he was reading one of his famous lists of fun facts...and one of them was Americans say 'Too much junk in the trunk', but British have 'Too much loot in the boot'. That one made us chuckle.

I'm sort of not looking forward to Peter's 'Britishness' fading when he gets here for good...he's always calling me his 'Canny Lass' or Petal. I totally love that.

OH! and WeeDebz - did you notice how I renamed the sheets? I can't remember who said it might have been confusing but I thought I would pre-empt the need for a K-3 one as well - we will have to make sure we can create a forum thread for us all when we start filing for the next part... I don't even know if it is a K-3 we will be filing for or whether it will just be an AOS... or if that is the K-3?! It's all so confuzzling!

On another note, I have a chat room on my website if anyone fancies arranging a meeting time and having a chat instead of a forum posting session?!

Isn't it great?! My OH admitted that had he not known me, he would have fallen for it hook line and sinker! He still had to ask me to explain bits of it that he didn't understand

Thanks Debz They cashed my check but no NOA1 yet AND I can't even view the check image for some reason so I can't get our case number Oh well.

yes, been three times before - summer 1993, winter 1996 (drove down from the mountains in the north, where I'd been skiing with German friends, on New Year's Day ) and autumn 2000... so while I know it reasonably well, I'm betting it's changed a bit... I LOVE it there; the architecture, the different old towns on each side of the river, the Charles Bridge, the little shops, the restaurants, just the atmosphere... we're avoiding the weekend, and it's the first week after school goes back, so we hope to avoid the crowds, and we hope to spend at least one day outside of the city - perhaps on a day trip to somewhere like Cesky Krumlov (last time I was there was 1992, so THAT will have changed markedly, I'd imagine...)

my fiancé's never been further east than Lille (in France), so it will be something very new for him... we're both REALLY looking forward to it

Thanks for the info. I'm looking forward to it, of course, I'm looking forward to traveling anywhere with him. It's a joy to be with someone as adventurous as I.

And jeraly, I'd love to find you and chat, but P will be here (YAY) so we might be a little busy

OK further update.....in "total days" on the spreadsheet you will now be able to see how many days you have waited since filing.....I knew all my PC training would be useful oneday just took some remembering how to do the formula, had to pull it from WAY back in the old grey matter filed under, "probably will never need to know but then again maybe!!!" exactly where all my high school algebra is stored!!!!!

my bad...they were under VSC but they are actually at CSC...I moved it earlier but forgot to change the SC. fixed now.
