Question(s) for anyone....if they're cutting the processing centers for the K-1 from 3 locations to 2, wouldn't the review times get longer since the staff at the VSC and CSC have that many more applications to process? Can we still look at the historical processing times at the VSC (which I understand to be better than the others) as a guide for how long our applications will take, or would it no longer be applicable?

I think you could be right, that the processing times may take longer. However, I'm under the impression that the california service center used to receive the MAJORITY of all applications, but that now it is more evenly distributed. For example, if CSC used to receive 3/4's of the total number of applications, they should only receive 2/4(1/2) the total applications now. So lets say 100,000 people petition...CSC used to get 75,000 of those apps....and now they should only receive 50,000.

This is just the impression that I'm under. I could be completely wrong and if so, TELL ME:)

What is everyone else's thoughts on this??

I'm so excited, got the hard copy NOA1 in the mail today!!!!!! I know.... now the waiting begins but I'm just so relieved to have it in hand!

Jeraly, you think you have a long story? Mine is long and screwey.

First off I admit I am the nutty one in the group.

Here is how it happened.

March of this year I met a girl online. She is a Filipina and was staying with her aunt nearby, lucky.

Our first day chatting was a Friday night and I was on call for work all weekend. I explained this to her and tried to setup a place to meet the following weekend. She eventually convinced me to meet her and her aunt the next morning for breakfast. but I warned that I might get called by work.

I showed up early at the meeting place and a call came in from work, I was able to answer it while sitting in the parking lot but was unable to pay attention to the entrance to the store, its now 10 past the meeting time. Thinking I missed them and they went inside I did so and looked around. Didn't see them and thought I got stood up so I checked out the new releases then leave, now 30 mins past meeting time.

On my way out I see them and introduce myself. We seemed to hit it off. She was a bit shy but her aunt Connie made up for it by asking me questions. Connie kept telling her that I am one of a kind and she could find noone better.

We went to sit at McDonalds and talk, Connie left us alone so we could talk without her lording over us. Unfortunately, I got another call from work and had to go in for this one. We exchanged numbers, her aunts cell, and parted ways.

Sunday I called and we set up a dinner date for Monday. We spent several hours talking both at the restaurant and in the car, we kinda got kicked out of the restaurant for staying too long. The next day we did lunch, no dinner. Wednesday I got a call, she got a ticket home for the comming Saturday. Found out she was here on a K-1 Visa for another guy and she found out he was abusive so she left to stay with her aunt while trying to get him to send her home. I should have seen there was something wrong at this time but I didn't.

So after the call we set up a date that night, we went to my parents house where they met her and we then went back to my place to watch a movie, The Lake House, before taking her home. I thought it was a good movie especially since it was about a long distance relationship and we were going to be having one of them.

Thursday we tried to go bowling but it was league night, and no lanes were open, so we went to a movie.

Friday was dinner with my parents and another movie, which her aunts also came to, but sat away from us, they just wanted to see the movie too.

And Saturday I went with them to the airport. After seeing her off and going back to Connie, she and I talked for over 4 hours and didnt relize it. The beginning of a good relationship between her Connie and I, I believe she thinks I am a perfect guy, unlike her husband but I wont go there.

In late April Connie called me and told me they were planning a trip to the Philippines in June for her daughters birthday and fiesta time for their barangay. I asked about time off at work and in may I was given the go ahead.

The girl and I were keeping in touch via phone and internet the entire time. We spoke often about how we missed each other and admitted our feelings.

I told her about the trip once I got word from work and she was happy that I was coming. Connie and I bought our tickets together, there were 7 of us going to Manila, where we met her, but only 6 of us, including her, would goto our final destination.

As the trip was getting closer she admitted that she had not gotten a job and asked for some money because she did not want to get a job so close to my trip, having to then take 2 weeks off, another warning sign that I ignored. I sent her $200 total in the weeks before I left.

When I got there I stayed with her at her parents house. There were signs all over that her parents were not happy with her and did not want her there but I did not see them. I had her parrents bed and she stayed with her younger sister. I got fed in the bedroom and we never went anywhere. I was also not introduced to anyone who did not come to the house. I met several cousins this way, which worked out for the better. This went on for 4 days with the only time we wnt out was to the store once and to her cousins, the one I came with, birthday party.

I tried to talk to her to find out what is going on on the 4th day but she avoided me in her chores. The morning on the 5th day I finally got her alone to talk. She admitted she had no feelings for me and that she was just trying to get money from me.

I packed up my things and asked her to call her Connie for me, to see if she would let me stay with her, or I could find a hotel if not.

Connie was pissed at her, and believing she was respnosible for me now that the girl did what she did, invited me to stay in a spare room at her house.

Connie and several of her nieces and nephews convinced me to not wallow in pity and go out to disco. We did karaoke, danced, and talked about lots of things.

A friend of one of theirs, Cayo, told me he would take me to the nearby city and I could have 1 night stand with all the girls there. LOL Told him I wasen't interested in that.

It was around this time that I started taking an interest in one of the girls, Charry, who turned out to be a niece of Connie's and a 1st cousin of the other girl. Did I say that almost everyone was related?

Cayo got her to give me a hand massage, he believes he got us together by doing this. I spent several days with them going to disco and fiesta.

I finally admitted to myself that I liked Charry alot, more than I ever liked her cousin. So I worked up the nerve to tell her. She thanked me and then walked away.. This confused the hell out of me until Connie came to talk to me a few mins later.

Connie explained that when Charry wanted me to know something and did not want to be around when I rejected her. When she was younger, an infant even, she had an infection that the doctors removed, they way they did it thou caused a deformity. She hides it well, and I will not go into detail, but it is non life threatening and is not something that turned me away. I explained this to Connie and she was glad, she admitted that she did not believe it would matter to me to begin with but Charry was afraid. She has many guy friends but had never had a boyfriend because instead of seeing her for who she is they saw her for the injury.

After this Charry and I were inseperable for the rest of my trip. I met her parents and siblings. I met her grandparents and several aunts. One whom was the grandmother of the other girl, and lived across the street from the first girls house. I mean come on.. I didn't meet the woman when she was 5 feet from the place I stayed but when I'm staying a mile away I meet her..

I eventually asked her parents for permission to ask for Charry's hand in marriage, they gave their consent, so I proposed on the spot.

We went to Cebu, her dad and 2 cousins came for protection, where I met her older sister. I have been named as the reason her father and her older sister are now talking to each other again. Her sister had been sent to college with the intention of her getting a job and putting Charry through college once she got out. But she got married instead. Dad though that Charry would never be able to be happy or something because of that.

Connie and the gang came the next day and we all met up to site see.

She came with me to Manila to wait with me for the 6 hours between my connecting flights. I miss her so much.

Well thats my story. We have been chatting almost daily with emails in between and text messages or phone calls covering the rest.

I noticed the release about the increase increase in application costs when I came back so I rushed to get the I-129F sent out. Luckly I had started some of it when I was with her. We completed the biographic form and she had signed it, I also had a visa photo taken when we were in Cebu.

Some of the people I work with think I am nuts for getting engaged so soon after meeting her, thus the reason I am the nutty one of the July group, but we know we are right for each other. I have never felt this way before, and she feels the same.

Guess I'll throw my hat into the ring.

Fell in love with my pen pal.

When I first met her, I was strictly looking for nothing more than that; a pen pal. The site listed her as a number, was a female within a couple years around my age, and short with brown hair. OK, sounds Japanese to me. Sent an email stating I was interested in practicing the language and learning more about their culture. Turns out that we actually had an enormous amount in common, and as the months rolled on, we slowly fell in love with one another. Never expected that to happen! 8 months after our first communication, she visited me in the States, and I was certain of what needed to be done next. I proposed to her, and she said yes. She went back home and we started planning our next steps.

I mailed our petition for a K1 on July 23rd, sending it overnight via the US Postal Service.

This site has been an incredible resource and has helped us put together our petition.

Thank goodness for technology too. Email, cell phone text messages and picture messages, Skype with web cameras... I estimated that it would have taken over 3 years to equal the amount of conversation that we have had just in email letters alone. I don't see how meaningful, solid relationships over extremely long distances could have developed without this technology that is available today.

The one thing that is a little difficult to overcome a times, is the fact that both of our family and friends are cautious and little skeptical about our choices, because the relationship is isolated and exclusive to just the couple. However, they understand that we are both in our 30's now, each with a child, and therefor realize that we both are not going to put our children into a terrible situation as a result of our poor judgment.

So, in before the fee increase, well, at least our I-129F is! Our journey has begun.

Hey while we're sharing, why not?

I 'met' my Amy on a musician's forum a couple years ago. She started a thread in which she listed the names of all the forum members she could remember, and I was nosy...I went into the thread to see if I was listed, and not only was I, but I was number 8 on the list (out of...a long list lol).

We started talking via MSN, and then, several months later expressed that we did want to be together, once we worked out the logistics of her being in England and me in Virginia.

In spite of my parents' warnings about the potential to be scammed/defrauded or whatever over the Internet, I ignored them and went to London to meet her. She then came here to meet my family, and yeah...here we are, our I-129F is sitting at VSC waiting to be approved!

I condensed it quite a bit, but I felt I should share it anyway.

I find our story a little ironic too, because I had been through a spate of really bad relationships/non relationships before 'meeting' her, and at the time I met her, I wasn't exactly looking for a girlfriend. But I found her anyway and I'm so happy

oh, isn't this annoying?! thankfully my parents have never been like this, but at the first forum gathering I mentioned earlier (there were six of us at that meet, from all over) we compared notes on this, and we'd ALL had the stupid 'they could be axe-murderers!' comments from all and sundry

yes, you should be careful with people you meet on the net, but that goes for people you meet ANYWHERE... I wish people would stop seeing all internet friendships and relationships as hotbeds of lies and deception

i was studying abroad last summer in florence, italy for two months...i was living in an apartment with 15 other american students, and i didnt really like most of them...they just were not the type of people that i wanted to be sharing this experience with (they didnt want to learn anything, they just wanted to go out and get wasted every night...extremely embarassing especially when youre in a country where this type of behavoir is looked at as disguisting)...

i did have a couple of friends there though, and one night, exactly 6 days after my arrival in italy, we went out to a local pub (not to get wasted, just to dance and have a good time)...i was literally having the time of my life...i was not thinking about guys AT ALL, in fact i wanted nothing to do with them, because i knew how 'summer loves' always end up, especially when there is an entire atlantic ocean involved...i was dancing and talking to my friends when i looked over...my eyes quickly met with some random guy in the bar...i looked away immediately and when i did so, i thought 'wow he was kinda cute', and i looked back over to find that he was still looking at me...he spoke first, and said 'ciao, buona sera' (hello, good evening)...we introduced ourselves and i struggled very much trying to hold a conversation in italian...i knew what i had learned in school (not much), but he was very patient and helped me out a lot...i later came to find out that italian was his second language as well, so thats probably why he was so tolerant at first =)

literally every night thereafter we met up after school for me, work for him and went out...mostly we just danced, talked and walked around the city, but it was wonderous...i think that for a while we were both really confused about eachothers intentions...i mean, i was studying abroad for two months, and hes a guy who knows that fact...i think we both assumed that it wouldnt go beyond the summer...the end of summer came, and it didnt end...i wasnt even sure at that time if he was going to keep in touch with me once i went back to america...ive met some shitty guys in my time, and just expected him to be another one...he wasnt...we have spoken at least once EVERY single day since august 14, 2006...we fell in love in person, but we really fell in love over the phone the next few months...i have visited him three times since last august in florence...initially i was going to go over there and teach english/go to school...it turned out to be more difficult and expensive than i had imagined, so we decided to take this route...cant wait for him to be here with me

Well since everyone else sharing....

Nick messaged me in Feb 06 after spotting my Yahoo profile (I liked the same music as him) and though I usually wouldn't reply, I decided I would as I could have used someone to chat too. I was coming to the end of a long term, live in relationship and Nick had had a tough break up. We spoke online almost daily from March 06 and became each others support systems. I decided I really needed a holiday and was going to go visit my friend in texas and me and nick agreed I'd do abit of state hopping as it would be cool to meet. Well I had a huge fall out with the ####### in texas. After a good bit of talking we decided I'd still go but just spend my full 15 days with Nick and his family. Booked my flights in April 06 and travelled over for last week in June- first in july (first trip to US and I witness 4th july celebrations). Between me booking tickets and heading over we started to develope feelings for each other. The instant we met it was amazing, we spent 2 great weeks together and both of us in tears when i had to leave. We spoke constantly online and both got webcams. Finally 6 months later (December 06) Nick came to scotland for the full allowed 6 months. May 07 we flew back to Nebraska for 3 weeks with his parents and we got engaged and decided that we would make the US our home. Nick flew back to scotland with me, both of us had our fingers crossed the whole way that he could get another 6 month stay, and he did. So he his here in Scotland with me. His flight back to Nebraska is on 6th December and then next time we see each other will be when I head over. We know we are facing x-mas, hogmany and my birthday (end jan) apart but know how lucky compared to others we are as we can be together just now. Orignially I was hoping to be there for my birthday but that has become unrealistic expectation. So like everyone else on this forum......our lives are in the hands of the US government (should we be worried?!?!).

The main response I get from people here in scotland to, "I'm going to America" is " wow good for you,where?" I answer "Nebraska" i get "oooohhh......why?"

With regards to what I'm doing with my stuff.....selling the lot. Moving all essential files (photos, music) on to my laptop and selling my PC. I intend on taking 2 suitcases with clothes and my laptop as carry-on. The rest I'll buy once over there as I need it.

oh, isn't this annoying?! thankfully my parents have never been like this, but at the first forum gathering I mentioned earlier (there were six of us at that meet, from all over) we compared notes on this, and we'd ALL had the stupid 'they could be axe-murderers!' comments from all and sundry

yes, you should be careful with people you meet on the net, but that goes for people you meet ANYWHERE... I wish people would stop seeing all internet friendships and relationships as hotbeds of lies and deception

cmon...gimme a break. It's not like I'm some 65 year old man, 350 pounds overweight, with millions of dollars in the bank and she's a 19 year old supermodel.

I think it's so ignorant that people label foreign fiances as users and con-artists. People are so quick to pass judgement when they've never even met or spoken to the person.

At first I let this bother me...and eventually I recognized it for what it was....BULLSH!T

wow, really? how insensitive... and insulting to both your fiancee, and your own good judgement!

I've never had any of those... and it would be ironic if I did, since the main thing holding me back from getting engaged was the necessity of moving; I'm really VERY happy here, and it was a lifelong dream to live in Europe (and it has NOT been a lifelong dream to live in Texas, though as I said above, I'm actually looking forward to it now )

hahah that is funny, only because i can actually hear people saying it...people are ignorant though, and i would bet my life that those people who said those things have never even been there!! neither have i, but im not the one passing judgement, now am i?

I admit Nebraska may not be to everyones taste.

The nearest ocean is a couple of days drive (but thats why we have planes....oh and this brings me to another big difficulty I found with a transatlantic relationship......I'm terrified of flying and I mean terrifed, I get so stressed before a flight that my chest physically hurts and I can't breathe properly and it's a least 3 planes from glasgow to nebraska, I wanted to be cabin crew years back until I had to take my first flight and discovered it was a terrible career move!!! However I did jump out a plane at 10,000ft for charity on a solo skydive, go figure)

There are NO hills (now coming from the scottish countryside thats a big change, Nick used to tell me how flat it was, didn't believe him til I saw it....well it is the great plains, leaving green hills, mountain covered with heather, my river at the end of my garden to move to corn fields)

It's not exactly a thriving urban hotspot ( again, I'm a scottish countrylass who hates the city so suits me fine )

I really like it there though. I get on great with Nicks family, and it's a big family. Only thing I'm not looking forward to.......spending hours in the basement due to tornados.
