My story...

Well, I was doing my fair share of partying in Thailand and I met this beautiful girl while shopping at the mall. We talked, exchanged numbers, whatever. Met up with her that night for dinner, and then we went out dancing and drinking. When we were at the nightclub I was introduced to one of her friends, Sirisuda. Now I know it isn't right, but as soon as I saw this girl I just KNEW she was something special. Her and I talked all night long and didn't even get the chance to hit the dance floor. She was really scared to take things further because I was technically there with her friend, which is understandable. I had to man-up and tell her friend that I initially met that I was sorry, and explain things to her. No hard feelings:)

We spent about 3 days together, then I had to fly back to the US.

Sirisuda and I talked on the phone and internet at least every other day. I couldn't wait any longer so I bought a ticket to go back to Thailand just 2 months after coming home. She picked me up at the airport, and we spent 8 fantastic days together. Leaving her that time was one of the hardest things I've ever had to do, and it was very hard for her also.

We spoke for hours, literally, EVERYDAY since then. I've gone back 2 times since then also...and we've decided we want to spend our lives together. I go back again on September 8th and bring her the engagement ring. I'm still trying to figure out exactly how I'll propose, since she already knows it's coming. Any bright ideas?

USCIS...work a miracle for us all and get us appoved soon!

Well how about leading a false trail - stupid things that could be slip-ups about how it is going to be done... Plan a nice night our - romantic restaurant, tell her you want her to dress up in her most beautiful dress and just - you know the works :)

Then maybe the day before or something, go for a walk along the beach/romantic place and just drop down on one knee in the middle of everything and do it there ;D She won't be expecting that :D

Hehe! Why so funny that you are engaged to an American!?

oh, just because I've always had a penchant for Europe... did Celtic Studies and Welsh and Medieval History and English lit while still living in Sydney... was a German teacher, have studied and travelled in Germany and throughout the rest of Europe (nine trips in 12 years); came here to London almost three years ago... my whole focus has always been Europe, and history, and so on... and my experience of Yankees before getting to know some so well was loud-mouthed tourists in bum-bags and white shoes

so you might say I was a little... prejudiced ;)

of course, all the Americans I know well are fabulous, so there's an end to THAT ;)

will still miss living in London though; I belong here in a way I've never belonged anywhere :(

The Very Secret Diary of Legolas Son of Weenus - by Cassandra Claire

Day One: Went to Council of Elrond. Was prettiest person there. Agreed to follow some tiny little man to Mordor to throw ring into volcano. Very important mission - gold ring so tacky.

Day Six: Far too dark in Mines of Moria to brush hair properly. Am very afraid I am developing a tangle.

Orcs so silly.

Still the prettiest.

Day 35: Boromir dead. Very messy death, most unnecessary. Did get kissed by Aragorn as he expired. Does a guy have to get shot full of arrows around here to get any action? Boromir definitely not prettier than me. Cannot understand it. Am feeling a pout coming on.

Frodo off to Mordor with Sam. Tiny little men caring about each other, rather cute really.

Am quite sure Gimli fancies me. So unfair. He is waist height, so can see advantages there, but chunky braids and big helmet most off-putting. Foresee dark times ahead, very dark times.

Question(s) for anyone....if they're cutting the processing centers for the K-1 from 3 locations to 2, wouldn't the review times get longer since the staff at the VSC and CSC have that many more applications to process? Can we still look at the historical processing times at the VSC (which I understand to be better than the others) as a guide for how long our applications will take, or would it no longer be applicable?

Hehe - I always loved the States ever since I went to FL in 1994 when I was 12. From the MUD I met Jeremy on I spoke to mainly Americans and got told I couldn't just judge the US by FL alone so I went to NY and they said the same so I resolved to visit every state ;D I've managed 7 so far - only another 43 to go

And you'll be ok - what part of the US is your OH from? 'Twould be cool if some of us were going to end up living close to each other! It takes a lot to settle but after finishing uni I don't feel like I fit in here anymore - I am so fed up with al the cr@p in this country that even though it prolly isn't much better int he US it can't be much worse... please?!

oh, I'm sure I'll be ok... there's lots to be excited about; being married just to start with (still can't believe that either! ), and then my fiance JUST finalised his purchase of a house (which I found for him online ;) ), and a whole new continent close by to explore, and some of those online friends, and so on and so on... it's just another change, and hell, I'm rather over that; the move from Aus to London was more traumatic than I really like to remember :?

though of course I won't be doing this one alone...

he's based in Houston, Texas

yep; if you're going to do the America thing, you may as well do it properly ;)

Indeed! Houston isn't *too* far by US standards - I'm going to be close to Palm Springs in Cali :)

You're lucky he has a house at the moment! We were going to buy but we just can't afford that yet - if we get this visa in time for the wedding then we are going to have to rent for a bit while we save for a deposit then we can buy. If we don't get the visa before the wedding then we have to cancel the K-1 app and start over after the wedding for a spousal visa - we are hoping it doesn't come to that :/

And it is such a big step! relocating, getting married - all these massive life changes all at once but it is so scary - I don't think it has quite sunk in for me yet - I went through a big traumatic "thing" when we first decided I was going to move there (it was always the plan for him to move here) - how was I going to bring my cat with me, how was I going to settle, what would happen if something happened to my family while I wasn't there, when is the southern part of the San Andreas Fault going to catch up with the northern part etc...

But it is a big adventure too and I am trying to look to that rather than the scary parts although I am sure I will be bricking it before I leave!

you're very right to look at it as an adventure, and let the scary parts be background noise :)

I guess that's one thing the previous move taught me - how to be practical, and how to do without Stuff ;)

all my Australian possessions are stacked up in a storage space in Sydney... and I had my own little apartment there (still have it, actually, just with tenants in it :( ) - so I had my fair share of furniture and books and kitchenware and stuff... hell, even had some pictures framed, and there's one measure of growing up ;)

but I arrived in the UK with one suitcase, and I've made a life here, and found jobs, and friends, and places to live, and done all manner of exciting and interesting things, and I know I can do it again, and this time with the HUGE bonus of doing it all with someone who loves me like crazy and wants me to be happy and will do almost anything to make that so :)

and of course that's reciprocal, so how can we go wrong? :)

yes, we're fortunate about the house... prices in Texas are just MAD compared to London (and Sydney, for that matter)... he got a great place for a great price :)

he's going to put a tenant in there for six months or so if he can, just to offset some costs, and then it's OURS, baby :D

(and my Houston comment was more along the lines of Texas being about as American as you can get ;) I think none of my friends would have been much surprised if I'd settled in Massachusetts or Maine or somewhere, but the Lone Star State is out there :D

bring it on :D )

That's going to be one of my biggest problems I think - I love my stuff so much! Being an Asperger's type-person (albeit an un-diagnosed one - I refuse to be one of those "self-diagnosed" people who feel sorry for themselves but I do happen to tick all the boxes :/) my "stuff" is a part of my safety net - it's the stuff that remains constant while life changes so much. As a person who finds change more difficult to cope with than most (and let's face it - I'm up for some pretty big ones!) my stuff is going to have to play an important part in helping me to settle down in my new life.

Obviously I am going to have Jeremy and that is going to be pivotal in my sanity! But I am already mentally ticking things off that i can bear to live without between now and when I live there so he can take things back with him when he visits and put things in storage. I am also trying to figure out the things that can stay here when I move away that I can then have mailed to me in small parts or bring more things back when I come to visit. Luckily(?) I still live at home so my room is my storage but I have a lot of memories, books, games and things that I surround myself to feel safe. I even have a blanket that smells of my bed - that comes with me everywhere even when I go travelling (Jeremy bought it and it is so soft :D). I am 25 and I still have a blanket... my "stuff" situation is dire to say the least - especially when there are so many things I want to take with me! I just have to console myself with the fact that I can take everything I want with me and other things that are less important will have to wait. My cat is not staying behind though - although dragging a cat, my wedding dress and two suitcases onto a plane is going to be very interesting!! Esp as I doubt I'll be able to have hand luggage as well!

Houses in Cali can be quite expensive by US standards but still so much cheaper than the UK. Bristol is pretty expensive but nowhere near as bad as London! By comparison, we can get a much nicer house for much less money there than we can here so our standard of living should be higher - hopefully when the dollar rises against the pound again as well it will be a nice investment for if we want to relocate to the UK for any length of time :)

Ok - I have work in the morning so I should get to bed... this place is addicting though - I feel so safe here because I know I am not alone!

oh, you have my sympathy and my understanding there; don't get me wrong, it's not like stuff's not important to me... in fact, I would be eerily similar to a lot of what you said (hate change... had friends joke about Asberger's... get security from things...)

it's just that HAVING to come over here without it taught me I CAN survive with very little :)

that said, I intend to take as much as I can as well... special things, anyway ;)

have you looked into shipping costs? I had some initial quotes done and it's really pretty reasonable - they charge by the cubic foot, and will do a whole door-to-door service - sometimes with packing and insurance included - for what seemed a pretty good price to me :)

you'd have to factor in the time it takes to get there, but could be a WHOLE lot easier than taking stuff onto the plane with you... just a thought :)

and yeah, the cost of living is going to be SO much lower over there... even when I went back to Aus in May - first visit in almost three years - I kept saying 'everything's so CHEAP!' and Texas is even cheaper ;)

Lmao - my mum mentioned Asperger's to me (she is a teacher) and my best friend of over 20 years (she is a counselor) mentioned it to me within the space of a week of each other and completely independently of each other. I did a bit of research and thought I fit the bill quite nicely so to speak but got annoyed when I found forums where people "self-diagnosed" themselves then seemed to try to outdo each other with how bad their "symptoms" were. Apparently Asperger's sufferers and/or ADHD sufferers etc. are supposed to be magnetically drawn to each other (esp from my experience in teaching!) which may explain why you keep responding to me and I am *still* sat here despite saying I was going to go to bed...

I haven't looked into shipping yet tbh - it's something I will look into nearer the time but with my cat and my dress and everything it is going to be a handful anyway so... Thing is I can't make any formal plans until I know what is going on - whether I am going to get the visa in time for our wedding - it's all very up in the air and for someone who just loves to make plans it is a nightmare trying to cater for everything that is going to happen when there are so many variables and unknowns!

I can survive on little - I just accumulate things very quickly to build my safety net again! So it is prolly in my best interests that I get as much out there as I can to start with or I will end up spending all our money on things we don't need just to feel better... Which, let's face it, is pretty ridiculous ;)

Ok - now I *really* am going to go to bed this time... honest ;D Will be around this time-ish tomorrow though so will catch up with you then after I have checked our case status 20 times again :D

Night night!

Can we still look at the historical processing times at the VSC (which I understand to be better than the others) as a guide for how long our applications will take, or would it no longer be applicable?

I think you could be right, that the processing times may take longer. However, I'm under the impression that the california service center used to receive the MAJORITY of all applications, but that now it is more evenly distributed. For example, if CSC used to receive 3/4's of the total number of applications, they should only receive 2/4(1/2) the total applications now. So lets say 100,000 people petition...CSC used to get 75,000 of those apps....and now they should only receive 50,000.

This is just the impression that I'm under. I could be completely wrong and if so, TELL ME:)

What is everyone else's thoughts on this??

Also, i think you should make a post asking this in the general K1 section of the forum. Then, provide a link in here to your post:)

Selby, you have something against color? Why did you delete all the style commands? :bonk:

VSC processing times were increasing before the final consolidation. Maybe they will improve again, but who knows?

VJ's timeline approval projections are already reflecting the increased processing times. As we watch the progress of our fellow VSC filers on our timeline here, we will be able to monitor the most recent processing data very well and see if it is improving or deteriorating.
