Bah. Easy to say when the only 'solution' you people keep beating your chests over isn't even your idea. Kind of like sitting in a restaurant and saying "I'll have what he's having" to remove yourself from the burden of decision making ;)

Besides, there's selective reading going on once again. Doesn't matter how the question is answered if you're going to ignore the answers anyway. Makes the whole thing rather pointless IMO.

Some more questions for you:

1) What is the plan currently?

2) Why did we invade a country (Iraq) that had little (if anything) to do with the phenomenon we are currently dealing with?

The whole "fight them over here" argument is phoney anyway - you can more or less control the import of people into the country, but its rather difficult to control the import of ideas.

IMO its about rather more than "shall we pull out". At the least we should reassess what we're currently doing (i.e. what are the long term "achievable" goals). Certainly Iraq, which was justified on the basis of vague national security threats (that never materialised) seems to have been about things other than what was explained to the public.

ok so whats the plan when we leave iraq & afganistan? now the islamic extremist are fighting our military on the other side of the world. what do you think is going to happen if we pull out? i doubt the sun comes out & everyone is giving each other big hugs & kisses is going to happen. i'm pretty sure the fight comes here. so whats the plan?

How bout we stop acting like we give two sh**s what the cowards are doing in the first place.

Live your lives and let the people who worry about the cowards for a living chase them around.

The "plan" should be greater international cooperation and an end to unilateral military adventures that make the problem worse. As I said, at some point we should reassess what we're doing, and whether it does what it says on the tin. I don't think that is unreasonable.

Again you lot seem happy to elaborate on the unique nature of this threat, but can't come up with a better idea than fighting them as though they are a conventional military force. Given the "drop the bomb" comments earlier in the thread I'd say people's understanding of diplomacy and foreign policy is laughably bad.

i never said drop the bomb. diplomacy- with who? we're talking about a bunch of psycho extremist, not a particular country.

don't you live in NY? do you remember the results of the diplomacy strategy?

IMO-we are all (including you & your family)safer with the current stategy than the "pull out & hope the sh*t doesn't hit the fan" idea.

so give me a plan please.

You didn't. Others did. And while we're tied up in a maze of "he said / she said" I didn't mention pulling out of anywhere.

You acknowledge that Iraq was a mistake, that's a start at least. I hope you can equally acknowledge the need to learn from those mistakes and not repeat them.

And as a BTW - when I said 'diplomacy' I wasn't exactly thinking of the people who are least receptive to it. Unless of course you believe that the ME is only home to violent thugs.

There isn't a lack of an actual plan, there is a lack of willingness in this administration to admit that it royally fcuked up and a stubbornly ignorant insistence - an insane insistence, really - to keep digging to get out of the hole they dug us into to begin with. Click on the link and read from page 33 onward if you're interested in what true experts consider and recommended as a viable approach.

ok i'll do that. but, if it doesn't contain a plan for the entire world living under islamic law, it won't work.

So, you're not interested in a serious debate on the way out of the clusterfcuk that Bush has managed to make out of Iraq. That's fine. But then please don't pretend that you are.
