Flying into Seattle from Korea w/ CR1 spouse

My wife w/ CR1 and myself(US Citzen) are travelling from Korea to Seattle in Februrary. She has no physical packet like some of VJers have mentioned. Just electronic format.

  • Will I be able to stand by her when she's at the booth or secondary check point?
  • Does she need to mention she's coming in with CR1? There was a thread about someone coming in with Travel Visa instead of CR1. And having to painfully correct it after the entry.
  • We use PO Box for receiving mails. We want to make sure the CBP/USCIS understand this and put both the physical and the mailing address are correctly on file. For Green Card. Will we have the opportunity to mention this to the officer?

Thank you.

RoC Timeline:

Yes you can both stand together at the CBP booth. You can go with her if she needs to go to secondary, but remember that she is the one applying for entry, so she needs to be answering the questions, not you.

yes. She hands over her passport with it open to the visa page and states that she is entering on her spouse visa    Her packet will be available online to the CBP officer.

yes. The officer usually asks  for confirmation of address in case it has changed since the interview .. if not asked, then she can raise the subject.

POE experience -

They never let me go back there.  We go through the main immigration and they call someone over to escort the immigrant to secondary.  I usually go to baggage, pick things up, and wait there.

Twice we did it and our on file address was not the address we had arranged to live in.  The officer in secondary, among other things, asks for your current address and updates it there.

The whole puppet show takes about a half hour to an hour.

Dont forget to pay the “green card fee” before you leave or asap after arrival.  Visa’s good for a year after entry and functions as a green card until they mail the real one in.  If you applied for a SS with the visa application it will automatically be mailed a few weeks after arrival.

Good luck!
