Sponsoring fiancé. How many years of tax returns?

My fiancé and I live together in Italy. I hold domicile in the US (maintain an address, vote, pay US taxes, am purchasing an apartment, etc.).

How many years of tax returns must be shown in order to sponsor him? I can only provide one year (this last year, so 2021) where I made over the required amount.

Thank you!

My attorney wanted the 2 most recent tax transcripts. I have seen some say to send in 1, some do 3 years worth. The tax transcript is only 1 page long so it can't hurt to do 3

What happens if the previous years are under the threshold?

I would expect it only matters what you've done most recently.

You must have filed taxes for the 3 most recent tax years.  Current annual income (income you will earn for the future 12 months) is king......not what you made in the past.

In summary, it took 13 months for approval of the CR-1.  It took 44 months for approval of the I-751.  It took 4 months for approval of the N-400.   It took 172 days from N-400 application to Oath Ceremony.   It took 6 weeks for Passport, then 7 additional weeks for return of wife's Naturalization Certificate..

Correct, but for the sponsor to qualify based on current income, it must be income that will continue from the same source, once the sponsor is back in the USA.  From reading the profile, I take it the couple will marry and pursue an immigrant visa for spouse, CR1/IR1.  Tax returns and sponsorship issues aren't going to come up until about a year after filing, and they still aren't married yet.  Plenty of time to sort these issues out.  The US Citizen needs to become an A-Student of both the I-130 instructions and the I-864 instructions.

Current income is King, but you've posted in a spouse visa forum.  Are you married or not?
