Port of entry… which line?

Hey folks,

Medical done yesterday, interview Wednesday. So nervous!

When we enter the USA at a PoE, we usually do Global Entry (and there’s a desk/CBP agents there who I could see), but also there’s the US citizen/visa line or the visitor line.  Anyone know which is officially the correct line to go in for a first time IV entry (we have no NIV so have only ever come in ESTA)?

This could vary from airport to airport. Follow the signs and/or ask questions. It will take less time to figure it out than it has taken for you to ask or me to answer the question.

You are stressing yourself trying to figure it out even before you get to the airport.

Just make sure to use the correct visa especially if you have multiple.

Generally, you should go to the line for foreign nationals. Same one you would use for an ESTA if you didn’t have Global Entry. The GE kiosk will not process your entry properly since GE won’t have the details of your IV. You’ll just need to go to a GE enrollment center once you have your GC to get them to update your details.

General principle is to follow signs and ask where to go if you are entering on an immigrant visa.

Maybe stressing myself out, or maybe as any sort of distraction from the stress of the interview as I count down the final few days.  On the almost two year journey every stage has been about preparing every detail to the n-degree.  Looking past the interview towards entry I am seeking the wisdom of the forum to help smooth whatever can!

To be honest I’m feeling big time imposter syndrome playing on every thought as I head in and ask them to grant my EB1A… eeek.

The interview is probably going to be easier than you are imagining.

As far as POE, every airport has different set-ups for their immigration.  Just look for an attendant directing traffic as the mobs are entering the immigration hall from the planes. Ask which line for an entering immigrant with a visa to process. You mentioned your POE airport has a line marked “Visas”. That sounds like the line to me. Many airports won’t have a specific line for Visas and you just go to Visitors. Ask an attendant guiding people.

People provide reviews describing their POE experience. Look up your airport and maybe you will find someone who described the lines. See on the main menu Office Reviews & Info> US Port of Entry. Then find your airport.

And after your entry, go back a leave a review that answers the questions you wondered about to help the next bloke. Pass it on…
