My interview in Montreal was scheduled today for Feb 2/22. Unfortunately there are no doctors that I can see anywhere near me and I will have to fly for the medical. What happens if I cannot get in before the interview or if my medical package isn’t there at the time I interview?

I am so nervous about this.

Approval will be delayed until they receive the medical.

From what I've seen around the forum, that's not a big issue in itself.

Let's wait for what other members can add.

I’m in the same situation in London, I understand many people are.  Anecdotally from London, VisaMedicals are working at their usual pace, they’re not behind, but there’s suddenly been a surge of interview slots which now means that medicals are being pushed way out.  There’s some conflicting advice on what to do, but the consensus seems to be to turn up to your interview!

Good morning @ErinD; congrats on the interview & please complete your timeline https://www.visajourney.com/timeline/profile.php?id=410524

Get your medical when you can (ie ASAP); your case will simply be placed in administrative processing until the consulate receives the results.

It will delay the approval from the Montreal consulate by 6-8 weeks, usually.  If you are trying to move asap, you could fly to Montreal earlier.  Otherwise, it's ok, just know that it will add some wait.

Thank you for the reply. No, I’m not planning to move until May or  June so the delay isn’t a big deal for me. Can I still travel to the USA in the meantime, though? Will they keep my passport? (I have NEXUS so I may be okay with that also)

This is like the tenth time in two weeks

1.  Attend the interview

2.  Complete the medical as soon as possible afterwards

The will hold your file until the medical results come in

They will likely keep your passport until the visa is processed

I just joined yesterday and I don’t know how to search for answers previously asked. Sorry to inconvenience you but thank you for your reply, all the same!

I am so nervous about this.

This literally happened to my husband over month ago. Same situation almost. Here’s our experience.

My husband got the email for his interview date on November 17, which said the date of his interview was December 10. The notice wasn’t as short as yours, but still problematic for him because he couldn’t get an appointment at the doctor nearest us. (I was also being induced the very next day to have our second child. Who was due Dec 9…so crazy timing. So stressful).

The ONLY place he could get in to get his medical was at the approved doc in Montreal, and his appointment was two days before his Montreal interview. We’re in BC, so my husband had to fly to Montreal and stay there for an entire week, eating into his vacation time.

Alas, the doctor passed everything but told him that the documentation from the medical exam probably wouldn’t be ready in time for the interview.

The interview went well, but they gave him a “denial” letter and his visa was “rejected” due to the medical exam. HOWEVER, the consulate told him not to be concerned , that it’s just because of they hadn’t received the medical and everything else was fine. So they kept his passport and told him that they would send his visa approval a few weeks after they got his medical. In the meantime, he CANNOT enter the US until he gets all that back. So keep that in mind for your situation.

We were notified a few weeks after his interview that his medical had been sent over to the consulate. As of today, we’re still waiting on his passport and approval to come back. It’s been annoying, and we’re not too concerned, but still annoying to wait this long. Especially when we took the ONLY medical appointment we could get within the timeframe they gave us for the scheduled interview. So it wasn’t for lack of promptness on our part. I can give you an update when we receive it. It’s been a while though.

I am so sorry this happened to you too.

im waiting to hear back from the dr in Surrey but I am thinking I will just have to suck it up and stay in Montreal longer than I wanted to. Even to fly to BC now would be a hassle so I figure I have no choice but to do it all there.

I do have my NEXUS card so hopefully if I do need to travel, I can. If not, it is okay also.

i am planning to relocate to Colorado in May or June so I don’t have a rush per se, but I did want to fly down for a few days to look at places with my husband. Sadly, this may not be possible now.

Thank  you for your help and offer to update. I pray you hear back soon.

This is unfortunately a common experience, the DS5535 thread mentioned above by @Hawk Riders is where we are hanging out looking for some news and supporting each other, we're a mix of AP & DS5535 all from the MTL Consulate.

The timelines for passport return are greatly varied, there's a spreadsheet in @Danii's profile that you can look at if you're curious.

Not sure if any one has asked the CO about not keeping their passport while they are in AP for medical, but the CO just kept mine with a "it'll be over in 4-6 weeks" however it's been longer than that so I'm no longer holding my breath.

Good luck!

Hi, we were DQ’d Nov 30/21 and received our appointment date on Jan 14/22. We had a little over 2 weeks  notice for the appointment.

be prepared for very pricy flights if you need to fly. Last minute to Montreal are extremely high.
