Hi Everyone,

Sorry about the distinct lack of knowledge here. My husbands company is just about to complete an I-140 FORM my husband is classed as E2 category. Does anyone have any idea how long this process takes and if the visa is granted how long does it give you out there? Is it just for the duration you work for the company that got you out there? What if you change jobs is say a few years? Also as his wife do I qualify under the same visa? I am a freelance producer, can I work as soon as I get out there? What I would love to do is pick up the phone to the embassy in the UK but they refuse to take phone calls relating to visas which is crazy.

Any help on this would be really appreciated.

E2 is a work visa, I 140 suggests EB2 which is an immigrant visa.

Best person to speak to is the Immigration Lawyer handling the case.

U may want to read about the EB visa

the following is for EB1

and as said above the company would have used a lawyer for this process to gather all documents from your husband to complete the petition

https://www.uscis.gov/working-in-the-united-states/permanent-workers/employment-based-immigration-first-preference-eb-1

If your I-140 petition is approved, your spouse and unmarried children under the age of 21 may be eligible to apply for admission to the United States in E-14 or E-15 immigrant status, respectively.

but there is also EB2 , EB3 , EB4 and EB5

as described on the following USCIS site

I think you need to find more out.

I-140 is for a green card. So it would be EB2.

E2 is an investor visa.

For both, you would be able to go with him and receive either a green card or a dependent visa. However, he needs to talk to the lawyers right away. If it's green card,  I believe they need to file a form for you as well.
