Hi everyone. I am currently at 11 months since filing I-751. (2-year was approved after an interview.)

From EAC processing time it looks like I could be approved soon. However I will be eligible for filing N400 this month. What is a better strategy here - wait for approval of I-751 or file N400 now? Will the latter possibly extend my waiting time for another year or longer? I’d rather have an approved 10 year GC than keep using the 24 extension letter. Thank you!

If you want to become a citizen, then file as soon as you are eligible.  If not, just wait......

In summary, it took 13 months for approval of the CR-1.  It took 44 months for approval of the I-751.  It took 4 months for approval of the N-400.   It took 172 days from N-400 application to Oath Ceremony.   It took 6 weeks for Passport, then 7 additional weeks for return of wife's Naturalization Certificate..

In at least one field office (Seattle), there is evidence  filing N-400 will stop your I-751: that office apparently requires N-400 to be adjudicated before approving I-751.

Generally I recommend filing N-400 as soon as eligible but if you believe your I-751 is going to be approved in under 6 months, consider holding off.

Thank you Mike. I've also read several reports of messy situations when some people waited for months after N400 interview, not being approved and without 10y GC, ending up in a limbo.

File the N 400   /  if you're eligible there is no need to wait

this is happening to so many people now because of the slow down in processing time for the I 751

One VJ member posted they passed the N 400 interview but had to wait for I 751 to be approved

still was faster than waiting for i 751 approval and then doing the petition for naturalization
