So I filed the AOS for my wide (who is here on a K3), and I just realized that I didnt send it to the correct address. It should have went to the service center that serves Washington State residents--instead I mailed it to the Chicago (

U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services

Attn: FBASI

427 S. LaSalle - 3rd Floor

Chicago, IL 60605-1098) address.

My question is, what will happen next? Will they process it in Chicago? Send it back to me? Forward it to the correct office for processing? Any info would be greatly appreciated!

Thank you,

Matt

Dude, you sent it to the correct address! Well, you sent it to the LaSalle address which is meant for couriers, instead of the PO Box, but I doubt that makes a difference. :)

You're good, family based AOS applications should be sent to the Chicago lockbox, unless you're in a DORA area (you are not).

I suggest you wait a while, may be 10/15 days and see whether you get the NOA from them.

The NOA would make it clear whether its being processed right.

If you dont, then get an infopass and explain them the error...and do as they direct.

Well, our experienced VJs could throw more light on your query...

Have you read his post? He thinks he made a mistake by sending to the Chicago Lockbox. The only mistake he made was using the LaSalle address instead of the PO Box. I'm quite sure that USPS will deliver to that address and USCIS will get the application. IMHO the OP has nothing to worry about.

News Flash: As of June 21, DORA area residents can also send their AOS applications to Chicago.

Well, I thought I read something that stated you send the AOS for K3 visa holders to your home servicing office, unnless you lived in one of like 20 states (and I didnt think Washington was one of them). Sorry for the confusion. Now, I just hope everything runs smoothly.

Any idea when we should receive the first interview invitation? Biometrics, interview, or anything that would require us to come in to the office in person?

Thanks again!

Yes, I did in fact point that out to someone earlier. ;)

No, that is incorrect. You did the right thing by sending to Chicago.

You'll get receipt notices for your applications in a couple of weeks. A couple of weeks after that you'll probably get a Biometrics appointment, which you will have to attend personally (the person getting the Green Card that is). After that you may or may not have to be interviewed.

The reason I ask when i may expect the first interview is because next month, my wife and I are going back to Turkey until September 10th. I would HATE to miss an appointment set up by USCIS while we are away from home.

This will be my wifes first trip back to her country since she came here in December. She is very excited to see family and friends!

Yes the correct address is U. S. Citizenship and Immigration Services

P.O. Box 805887

Chicago, IL 60680-4120

I would use Infopass if you do not get an NOA in a few weeks especially do it before the 30th because fees increase.

I hate to say it, but a month after you file for AOS is a very bad time to take a long vacation. During the first few months you will be receiving lots of mail you need to pick up and will most likely get at least the biometrics appointment in that time, which cannot be missed.

Worst case scenario question...If we get the appointment notice for the biometrics while we are on vacation, is there any way I can reschedule the appointment?

Usually with biometrics if you miss the appointment you can turn up on a following Wednesday and have the biometrics done. I don't recall how long you can wait to do this before it causes a problem however.
