I filed my own my ex and I have no children and no property he didn't have to come to court only the person filing once on the stand they will ask if she wants her maiden name back if so it's best to do it with the courts right then. The only thing if you both agree on the divorce just sign the paper if not they will put it in the news paper in 30 days no response they don't need a signature and the would be it. I'm not a lawyer but I live in GA and did my own so i can speak on this one now only if you share nothing and by your question i can speak on this and no you don't need a lawyer

It is just a small consultaiton fee to talk to a lawyer

and to change a name after divorce in GA,  it must be done separately and there is a fee

How do you go back to your maiden name after a divorce in Georgia?

Name Change After the Divorce Is Finalized

According to GeorgiaGov, you'll need to submit a petition to your local Superior Court describing why you'd like to change your name (e.g. you have recently been divorced).

How much does it cost to change your name back to your maiden name in Georgia?

There is $89.95 fee to change your name in Georgia. The Georgia court has a separate filing fees like other courts in the United States

Who pays for this may be in the divorce degree itself / that's why lawyers are needed to understand the courts and "what someone can stick to either party"

No kids and no property should be easy but i have heard of people fighting over a pet

I did my own here in ga and the divorce paper have a question do you want to keep your name or change it back to your maiden name. I checked the box to go back to my maiden name after divorce good thing I did because it's $300 to change it later. I paid for mine $175 to do my own to have them served more money but to have it announced in the paper free or they just sign witch would be called a non contestant divorced. Yes that petition has that question on it to have your name changed it took me 3 months for it to be final. There is a fee you pay after filing oh and you have to read it yourself the decree in front of the judge on the stand. I did mine in 2017 my friend I help did hers in 2020

I'm speaking on experience I said I was not a lawyer if it was something I didn't go through I wouldn't of commented

It's not your experience or comment that may be of issue.  It is the suggestion that someone else would not need a lawyer that is "iffy".

Each divorce is unique.  There are 2 people involved and depending on the personalities and circumstance, both parties may mutually agree to a non contesting divorce and things can be done simply.

The issue is how to prevent the other party from requesting or demanding something that you thought is settled and agreed upon.  A lawyer can look over any agreement you have drafted and comment on any issues that may arise.  That is, if the agreement looks iron clad or if there is something left out that can come back to haunt one party or another.
