My wife has an upcoming interview. She is a permanent resident and I am a U.S. citizen. The question is in bold.

The interview letter requests to bring the following:

You MUST BRING the following with you to the interview:

• This letter. (we have this)

• Your Alien Registration Card ("green card"). (we have this)

• Any evidence of Selective Service Registration. (does not apply).

• Your passport and/or any other documents you used in connection with any entries into the United States. (my wife has a Filipino passport which expired last November. should she still bring it?)

• Those items noted below which are applicable to you:

If applying for NATURALIZATION AS THE SPOUSE of a United States Citizen;

• Your marriage certificate. (we have this)

• Proof of death or divorce for each prior marriage of yourself or spouse. (does not apply)

• Your spouse's birth or naturalization certificate or certificate of citizenship. (we have this)

So it is okay that it is expired? We did not renew it because we had no immediate plans to travel outside the country and hoped to get an American one soon.

If you are asking if you need to renew the passport before the interview, the answer is no.

If you have an expired passport you are expected to bring it.  If you have an expired passport and refuse to bring it then prepare for an RFE or denial.  I don’t understand the reluctance.

I was told to bring every passport I had, expired or current and I complied.
